A fan blog about the AHL's Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins

2015 Offseason Moves

Back for the fourth year is the chart of the 2014-15 Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins contract statuses. As the summer wears on and players come, go and re-sign this chart will be updated. Any new additions after the July 1 free agency period beginning will be given their own separate table below this one. You won’t see a lot of activity on this table until mid to late June, then business really picks up after the July 1 NHL Free Agency period.

If there are errors or omissions, please let me know. This chart is centered on players that played the majority of time in Wilkes-Barre, so names like Beau Bennett or Evgeni Malkin are not included.

Name Position Status Notes
Josh Archibald Forward Under Contract Will need to step into a bigger role in WBS in the Fall. He will be given the opportunity.
Alex Boak Defense Unrestricted (AHL) Signed by Fort Wayne (ECHL) July 22.
Taylor Chorney Defense Unrestricted (NHL) Signed with Washington (NHL) July 1.
Nick D’Agostino Defense Unrestricted (NHL) Was not tendered a qualifying offer by Pittsburgh.
J-S Dea Forward Under Contract I consider Dea and Josh Archibald to be similar. I think that they both certainly made cases for full time work in the AHL this season.
Nick Drazenovic Forward Unrestricted (NHL) He is useless if he can’t stay healthy and recently, he can’t stay healthy. He retires or hops overseas.
Brian Dumoulin Defense Restricted Re-signed with Pittsburgh July 9.
Andrew Ebbett Forward Unrestricted (NHL) Signed by SC Bern (Swiss League) June 24.
Bobby Farnham Forward Restricted Re-signed with Pittsburgh (NHL) July 13.
Sahir Gilll Forward Unrestricted (AHL) I think he looks elsewhere, but he’d be a good fit here in Wilkes-Barre and has proven that he can produce at the AHL level.
Barry Goers Defense Unrestricted (AHL) Re-signed with Wilkes-Barre (AHL) June 10.
Scott Harrington Defense Under Contract Traded to Toronto (NHL) as part of the Phil Kessel deal on July 1.
Eric Hartzell Goaltender Unrestricted (NHL) Was not tendered a qualifying offer from Pittsburgh.
Tristan Jarry Goaltender Under Contract Will probably backup Murray in Wilkes-Barre next season.
Kasperi Kapanen Forward Under Contract Traded to Toronto (NHL) as part of the Phil Kessel deal on July 1.
Tom Kostopoulos Forward Unrestricted (AHL) Re-signed with Wilkes-Barre (AHL) May 27.
Tom Kuhnhackl Forward Restricted Re-signed with Pittsburgh (NHL) June 23.
Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond Forward Unrestricted (NHL) Signed with New Jersey (NHL) September 8.
Matia Marcantuoni Forward Under Contract He’s got a few things I am sure that they told him to work on during the summer. The role increases in ’15-16.
Reid McNeill Defense Restricted Re-signed with Pittsburgh July 3.
Jayson Megna Forward Unrestricted (NHL) Signed with New York Rangers (NHL) July 1.
Matt Murray Goaltender Under Contract No reason to believe that he does not legitimately challenge for NHL backup duty next season.
Ryan Parent Defense Unrestricted (AHL) If Europe is an option, he bolts.
Adam Payerl Forward Unrestricted (NHL) Signed by Cincinnati (ECHL) September 11.
Derrick Pouliot Defense Under Contract You have seen the last of him unless something ridiculous happens depth wise in Pittsburgh.
Carter Rowney Forward Unrestricted (AHL) Re-signed with Wilkes-Barre (AHL) June 15.
Harrison Ruopp Defense Under Contract Somehow Ruopp is under contract. Gotta play him.
Bryan Rust Forward Under Contract May get squeezed out of an NHL job in the Fall and end up back here. I don’t think we have seen the last of him.
Clark Seymour Defense Unrestricted (AHL) Signed with Wilkes-Barre (AHL) July 13.
Conor Sheary Forward Unrestricted (AHL) Signed by Pittsburgh (NHL) July 1.
Oskar Sundqvist Forward Under Contract He didn’t show enough in one game for me to get a read on him. I don’t think he sticks in Pittsburgh, if that’s worth anything.
Danny Syvret Defense Unrestricted (AHL) He will look elsewhere I think.
Dominik Uher Forward Restricted Re-signed with Pittsburgh (NHL) July 17.
Scott Wilson Forward Under Contract Could challenge for a spot in Pittsburgh next season, but I see him starting in WBS.
Jeff Zatkoff Goaltender Under Contract He will be neck and neck with Murray for backup to Fleury next season. That he spent a year as an NHL backup should give him the leg up.
Anton Zlobin Forward Under Contract Want to see him stay healthy and play more than 6 AHL games next season.

Again, this will be updated as the offseason wears on.

This chart below represents the new signings the Penguins have made in the offseason.

Tyler Biggs Right Wing Toronto (AHL) Packaged as part of the Phil Kessel deal on July 1.
Tim Erixson Defense Toronto (AHL) Packaged with Biggs in the deal for Phil Kessel.
David Warsofsky Defense Providence (AHL) Veteran D could be first call-up option to Pittsburgh if needed.
Kael Mouillierat Center Bridgeport (AHL) Sniper. 24-26-50 for Bridgeport last year.
Sergei Plotnikov Forward Russia May be destined for Pittsburgh but is entry level so if things don’t work out, could be sent here.
