A quick check of the ECHL transaction log shows that defenseman Jason DeSantis and forward Ben Street have been recalled by Wilkes-Barre / Scranton sometime today.
I would assume that these are just preliminary call-ups because with forward Tim Wallace still out with what is called a “minor” injury and defenseman Andrew Hutchinson out until at least Christmas, (Dustin Jeffrey remains on recall to Pittsburgh) Wilkes-Barre is bare bones right now.
It would be interesting to see if these guys get into any games. Street’s numbers at this point are 8-14-22, +10 in 23 games and DeSantis’ are 2-12-14 and a +1 in 18 games.
Street is Wheeling’s leading scorer. DeSantis is The Nail’s top defenseman. Justified call-ups in my opinion. If anyone ahead of them in the lineup stumbles tomorrow (*cough* Steve Wagner *cough*) throw them in there Friday vs. Abbotsford and see what they can do.
Bombulie had an excellent piece today on what the lines look like with Wallace and Jeffrey absent. Rolling three lines who can arguably be top line guys on maybe half the league is depth personified. So we’ll have to see tomorrow.
Gameday for the game vs. the Abbotsford Heat will be up at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon. Let’s Go Pens!
