Chirps from Center Ice

A fan blog about the AHL's Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins

Vitale’s Big Day

Pittsburgh announced cuts today which include Brian Strait, Alexandre Picard and Jason Williams. Picard and Williams have to clear waivers by noon Tuesday. 2011 draft pick Joe Morrow was returned to his WHL team. In addition, Boris Valabik, Sidney Crosby, Dustin Jeffrey, Nick Petersen and Robert Bortuzzo were placed on injured reserve getting Pittsburgh to the roster limit of 23 players.

Hearty congrats to both Richard Park and Joe Vitale for making the NHL team.

Expect the following: Park and Vitale to get demoted when Jeffrey and Crosby are healthy. Don’t rule out a conditioning stint for Jeffrey either. But what do I know?

Indirect good news here in Wilkes-Barre for a guy like Devin DiDiomete with Steve MacIntyre also making the Pittsburgh squad.

Jonathan Bombulie from the Penguins Insider gave his readers some insight today on line combos and where guys stack up between Pittsburgh and WBS.

Elsewhere…

-> Wilkes-Barre did not practice today, but they made some cuts as Wheeling confirmed via Twitter today the receipt of Denver Manderson, Zack Torquato, Chad Langlais, Alex Kangas and Patrick Killeen from WBS.

-> Dave Sottile from Pennsylvania Puck had a nice story about backup goaltender Scott Munroe.
