Couple of things I want to touch on today which have been in the queue, not worthy of their own blog entry. Here we go:
<-> Penguins made roster moves. Denver Manderson, Zack Torquato, Martin Moucha, Nick Plastino, Chad Langlais, Andrew Hotham, Patrick Killeen and Alex Kangas were shipped to Wheeling yesterday. Chris Barton was sent there today.
<-> In the Barton link above you will also see that the Penguins signed Niko Dimitrakos to a professional tryout agreement. (usually 25 games) He is listed as a Center but Bombulie recalls him on the wing. Regardless, an interesting signing. If he is indeed a center, where does he fit on the depth chart with guys like Ryan Craig, Ben Street, Bryan Lerg and Zach Sill? Do you slide Sill to a wing and slot Dimitrakos centering the fourth line? He last played in North America in 2007-08 with Binghamton where he scored 20 goals and had 20 assists. Jonathan said that he had an invite to Vancouver’s camp this year. He will need to be effective enough to help us compete in the division for me to get excited enough about a guy who has been in large part forgotten about in Europe for the past three years.
<-> Jason Williams and Alexandre Picard were assigned to Wilkes-Barre and cleared waivers. No link to that news, just take my word for it.
<-> The Penguins have an iPhone app you can download if you own a device.
<-> Eric P at the Wilkes-Blog previewed the Forwards for WBS this upcoming season. I’m so glad he does this so I don’t have to.
<-> Sunday could be interesting vs. the Connecticut Whale. NHL pest Sean Avery was waived by the New York Rangers yesterday and cleared. He has been assigned to the Whale.
Finally, the AHL Previews are rolling along. Scroll down or click here for the Atlantic Division which rolled out today. The entire Western Conference is out, rather than providing links to each, go to the top of the blog and click “AHL Previews” for the division you are interested in. Northeast Division Preview comes out tomorrow at noon and the East Division Friday at noon.
Keep chirpin’. Go Penguins!
