Throwback Thursday

Couple of things to note today:

— The Penguins announced a training camp roster and schedule today. Here’s the link to the schedule and names of those invited. But here is a list of names invited for my own reference:

Forwards (15) – Mike Carman, Kyle Fletcher, Brian Gibbons, Chaz Johnson, Tom Kostopoulos, Jack MacLellan, Denver Manderson, Patrick McGrath, Christiaan Minella, Carter Rowney, C.J. Severyn, Cody Sylvester, Paul Thompson, Domink Uher, and Scott Zurevinski

Defensemen (8) –  Nicholas D’Agostino, Barry Goers, Reid McNeill, Peter Merth, Mike Ratchuk, Clark Seymour, Dustin Stevenson, Alex Velischek

Goaltenders (2) – Andy Chiodo and Peter Mannino

Yes. THAT Andy Chiodo. Famous for this.

But that was back in 2004. Nearly ten years ago! Nostalgia is nice, but nostalgia doesn’t win hockey games.

I’m not implying that Chiodo even has a relative chance of making the opening night roster, with Jeff Zatkoff expected back soon and Peter Mannino already in town. I am just playing devils advocate.

Throwback Thursday, indeed.

Jonathan blogged on the training camp release, complete with capsules on most of the players.

— In lieu of a PensFest this year, the Penguins are doing something different this year. It’s called a “Penguins Premiere” at the F.M. Kirby Center in downtown Wilkes-Barre. It will be a meet and greet of the entire team. Season ticket holders can pick up their season ticket box and you can stick around and watch the Pittsburgh Penguins take on the New Jersey Devils on the 20′ x 40′ theater screen. Season ticket holders should check their mailbox.

Good times. That should be fun.

Don’t know if I am heading to camp this weekend or not. If I do, I will probably take pictures and generally try to stay out of everyones way.
