Chirps from Center Ice

Announced this afternoon were more cuts from Pittsburgh’s camp. Here’s who is headed to Coal Street:

Forwards: Nick Drazenovic, Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond, Steve MacIntyre, Jayson Megna, and Adam Payerl

Defensemen: Scott Harrington, Brendan Mikkelson and Philip Samuelsson

Drazenovic, Mikkelson and MacIntyre have to clear waivers. We will know noon Monday if they clear or not.

Here is a look at the updated Pittsburgh roster.

Names on that list more familiar to Wilkes-Barre fans are defensemen Brian Dumoulin, Olli Maatta, Derrick Pouliot, and Harrison Ruopp. Forwards Chris Conner, Andrew Ebbett, Bobby Farnham, Tom Kuhnhackl and Zach Sill.

For Dumoulin and Farnham, they are on the injured list. So they can’t get sent back unless they are recovered from their ailments.

For Pouliot and Maatta, it’s NHL or back to juniors this year. Both aren’t old enough to play in the AHL.

Veteran guys like Conner and Ebbett will get a more extended look up top, but I would expect them back soon.

Glad to see Tom Kuhnhackl and Zach Sill get extended looks for Pittsburgh. Sill has been a beast in the faceoff circle for the Pens in their preseason games. Kuhnhackl doesn’t look out of place.
