Week 9 AHL Power Rankings

Being number one is like a kiss of death in the Chirps from Center Ice AHL Power Rankings. The number one team hasn’t stayed number one for consecutive weeks since the first two weeks of the season when all the teams hadn’t played yet and I had no idea what I was doing and if I was even going to continue to rank 30 AHL teams, half of which I don’t see live.

But the reception to date has been positive, so we continue.

Anyway, your Grand Rapids Griffins are the number one team this week and this homer this blogger changes the positions of all teams except the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins, which remain fifth in the Rankings.

5 WBS No change Call-ups starting to wear on the Pens, who struggled all week to score goals, but still lead the division coming into December. @ STJ Fri. & Sat.
6 BNG 2nd (-4) Beat the wayward Crunch, then can’t score in Wilkes-Barre and lose in shootout vs. St. John’s. Bump in the road? Host HER Fri., ALB Sat.
7 STJ 11th (+4) IceCaps close out the road trip winning 3 of 4. Manchester may be the class of the division, though. Host WBS Fri. & Sat.
8 button_abb200 1st (-7) Heat talked trash all week on social media to the “last place Comets” yet Abbotsford lost both games to the Comets in overtime. Host SA Fri. & Sat.
9 TOR 14th (+5) Marlies win both games this week to vault themselves over the division and province rival Bulldogs. Can they stay there? @ LE Thu., Host HAM Sat.
10 button_ham200 8th (-2) Dogs surpassed by the Marlies for the division this week. Little margin for error in the North Division. @ LE Fri., TOR Sat., Host LE Sun.
11 button_rfd200 17th (+6) IceHogs are the only threat to the Griffins for the division lead right now. Host CHA Thu. & Sat.
12 ADK 18th (+6) Not a bad week for the Phantoms, beating the Penguins and Devils before losing to the tardy Crunch 1-0. Host BRI Wed., HFD Fri., UTI Sat.

19 PRO 25th (+6) Perfect weekend a long way from home for the Bruins, who get wins in Norfolk and Hershey. Host MCH Fri., @ WOR Sat., Host POR Sun.

22 RCH 27th (+5) Amerks ebbing and flowing. Halt their four game losing streak with wins against Hamilton and Lake Erie before losing to Toronto. Host UTI Wed., @ GR Fri. & Sat.

25 BRI 28th (+3) Sound Tigers slow down the Monarchs on Sunday and get 4 of 6 points this week. @ ADK Wed., UTI Fri., Host HER Sat.
26 button_okc200 24th (-2) Salvage a win Saturday vs. the Rampage, who are losing touch in the division as quickly as the Barons are. Host TEX Tue., @ MIL Fri., CHI Sat. & Sun.
27 POR 15th (-12) Three losses this week and the Pirates take over the Atlantic Division basement from the Sharks. @ WOR Fri., Host MCH Sat., @ PRO Sun.
