There’s about a month left in the AHL season depending on your schedule, so that means we are approaching the end of the AHL Power Rankings. But don’t fret, we have a fresh list here for you! Let’s get straight to it.
1. Colorado Eagles
Last Week: 4th (up 3)
Record: 34-15-5-3
Eagles lead widening on the Pacific and a four game win streak will do that for any team.
2. Laval Rocket
Last Week: 1st (down 1)
Record: 39-16-2-1
Got caught off guard by a putrid Bridgeport team this past Wednesday but tightened things up and swept Utica.
3. Hershey Bears
Last Week: 3rd (no change)
Record: 36-15-5-1
If they haven’t yet, the back to back defensing champs are going to be the first team in the Calder Cup Playoffs. The last to turn off the lights last season will be the first ones to turn them on this postseason.
4. Rochester Americans
Last Week: 2nd (down 2)
Record: 35-17-3-3
Amerks are still pushing for the Rockets lead, while trying to protect the second seed they currently occupy.
5. Texas Stars
Last Week: 11th (up 6)
Record: 34-19-3
Stars sweep the Monsters at home and use this to stay atop the Central Division standings.
6. Syracuse Crunch
Last Week: 13th (up 7)
Record: 27-19-8-4
Crunch are one of the hottest teams in the North Division.
7. Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins
Last Week: 8th (up 1)
Record: 32-17-7-1
Penguins are working out bugs and at this expense comes some losses. When they are one they are unbeatable but when it isn’t there, man, sometimes it’s tough watch.
8. Providence Bruins
Last Week: 9th (up 1)
Record: 32-19-4-3
Pens stumble and so do the Bruins a bit.
9. Coachella Valley Phantoms
Last Week: 5th (down 4)
Record: 32-20-2-5
Firebirds go winless this week but are in prime position, for now.
10. Lehigh Valley Phantoms
Last Week: 14th (up 4)
Record: 30-22-5-2
Battled the Pens this weekend and tightened things up in the Atlantic Division logjam.
11. Abbotsford Canucks
Last Week: 17th (up 6)
Record: 32-23- 2-1
Canucks warming up at the right time.
12. Belleville Senators
Last Week: 19th (up 7)
Record: 28-21-4-4
Pair of 6-1 wins over Bridgeport certainly help the Senators cause.
13. Milwaukee Admirals
Last Week: 6th (down 7)
Record: 30-19-4-6
Not a good weekend for the Admirals, who can use the points now and assurance of a bye in the First Round.
14. Charlotte Checkers
Last Week: 10th (down 4)
Record: 32-18-3-3
Penguins stumble a bit and the Checkers can’t make any ground.
15. Springfield Thunderbirds
Last Week: 13th (down 2)
Record: 30-22-2-4
Thunderbirds hit a bit of a skid this weekend.
16. San Jose Barracuda
Last Week: 16th (no change)
Record: 29-21-4-3
Barracuda have been running at about a .500 clip of recent.
17. Calgary Wranglers
Last Week: 12th (down 5)
Record: 31-21-4-3
Sliding backwards and may end up on the road First Round.
18. Toronto Marlies
Last Week: 22nd (up 4)
Record: 31-17-3-6
Marlies are getting hot and Toronto isn’t a team you want to warm up at this time of the season.
19. Ontario Reign
Last Week: 21st (up 2)
Record: 33-19-3-1
Good week for the Reign, who surpassed the Wranglers in the standings and looking to push.
20. Grand Rapids Griffins
Last Week: 28th (up 8)
Record: 32-22-4-2
Griffs rip off three wins this week and that brings them right up to the Central Division leaders.
21. San Diego Gulls
Last Week: 15th (down 6)
Record: 23-27-5-3
Gulls cooled off but the white hot Eagles at home this past weekend.
22. Tucson Roadrunners
Last Week: 27th (up 5)
Record: 28-25-3-2
Good little recovery for the Roadrunners here of recent.
23. Chicago Wolves
Last Week: 20th (down 3)
Record: 30-24-3
Bears come to town and that dings the Wolves run up the Central Division standings.
24. Rockford IceHogs
Last Week: 23rd (down 1)
Record: 25-26-5-1
IceHogs look okay for playoffs, but can still make a push on the Wolves at the four seed.
25. Cleveland Monsters
Last Week: 18th (down 7)
Record: 28-20-5-5
Pair of losses in Texas tightens the noose a bit on the Monsters who have company.
26. Bakersfield Condors
Last Week: 25th (down 1)
Record: 25-22-6-3
Condors not out of it yet but have to push, hard, if they want to be a playoff team.
27. Manitoba Moose
Last Week: 26th (down 1)
Record: 21-32-1-3
Moose are looking to finish out the string respectively.
28. Henderson Silver Knights
Last Week: 24th (down 4)
Record: 24-31-3
Bit of a tough slog for the Silver Knights here.
29. Hartford Wolf Pack
Last Week: 30th (up 1)
Record: 25-29-5-2
Get the utensils ready on this team who salvage the Midwest trip with a Saturday win in Milwaukee.
30. Utica Comets
Last Week: 29th (down 1)
Record: 23-28-4-2
Comets drop three straight to two of the arguably hottest teams in the division in Syracuse and Laval, if not the League.
31. Iowa Wild
Last Week: 29th (no change)
Record: 20-32-4-1
Playing out the string in Des Moines, may be looking to play spoiler.
32. Bridgeport Islanders
Last Week: 32nd (son change)
Record: 13-40-4-3
Stunned Laval but then got thumped in Belleville. First team officially eliminated from postseason, which wasn’t a surprise.
