AHL Power Rankings – Week 27

One week to play in the AHL season. For some there isn’t a whole heck of a lot to play for, for others, this is their entire season right here as they still haven’t clinched, are close but so are two other teams in the same predicament. Others it’s all about seeding and for others it’s fine tuning for a hopeful deep playoff run. Which side is your team on?

Let’s get right into it…

1. Abbotsford Canucks

Last Week: 1st (no change)
Record: 41-24-2-2

Canucks should be in your Calder Cup Finals pool.

2. Colorado Eagles

Last Week: 2nd (no change)
Record: 42-19-5-3

Looks like the West is coming through Colorado.

3. Laval Rocket

Last Week: 3rd (no change)
Record: 46-18-3-2

Looks like the Rocket will win the regular season title, which really doesn’t mean a thing.

4. Hershey Bears

Last Week: 4th (no change)
Record: 43-19-6-1

The drive to three straight starts in a week for the Bears.

5. Charlotte Checkers

Last Week: 6th (up 1)
Record: 41-22-3-3

The Checkers are fighting to hold on to the first round Atlantic Division bye.

6. Ontario Reign

Last Week: 8th (up 2)
Record: 41-24-3-1

Reign train host Colorado and Abbotsford this week, looking to send a message hopefully for a few weeks.

7. Texas Stars

Last Week: 7th (no change)
Record: 42-25-3

Stars still chasing down Milwaukee for the Central Division crown.

8. Milwaukee Admirals

Last Week: 11th (up 3)
Record: 39-21-5-6

Admirals are getting hot again at the right time.

9. Providence Bruins

Last Week: 9th (no change)
Record: 39-23-5-3

Bruins will close out this season with a huge raid matchup in Wilkes-Barre then probably a play your kids game Saturday against the Islanders.

10. Rochester Americans

Last Week: 5th (down 5)
Record: 41-21-4-3

Losing 4-2 to Laval and Belleville this week isn’t the way you want to enter into playoffs.

11. Syracuse Crunch

Last Week: 10th (down 1)
Record: 35-22-8-4

Crunch will likely punch a ticket to the playoffs this week.

12. Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins

Last Week: 15th (up 3)
Record: 39-22-7-1

Buying stock in Wilkes-Barre or nah? I’m holding another week. Can they get a bye or not? Can they get by (see what I did) Providence this Wednesday?

13. Calgary Wranglers

Last Week: 16th (up 3)
Record: 36-27-4-3

Clinched a playoff spot, which is all that really matters.

14. Coachella Valley Firebirds

Last Week: 18th (up 4)
Record: 37-24-4-5

Firebirds setting themselves up for another deep run possibly?

15. Chicago Wolves

Last Week: 12th (down 3)
Record: 35-30-4

Can go as high as third in the Central which remains a possibility.

16. Lehigh Valley Phantoms

Last Week: 14th (down 2)
Record: 34-28-6-2

Jockeying for positioning with the Thunderbirds for the 5 and 6 seeds.

17. Toronto Marlies

Last Week: 17th (no change)
Record: 34-23-4-8

Marlies need an almost a perfect week to guarantee a spot.

18. Cleveland Monsters

Last Week: 22nd (up 4)
Record: 35-23-5-6

Looked like world beaters last weekend at home against the Penguins, but needed up splitting with Toronto this weekend.

19. Springfield Thunderbirds

Last Week: 13th (down 6)
Record: 34-30-2-4

Thunderbirds seems destined to finish sixth in the Atlantic.

20. Utica Comets

Last Week: 19th (down 1)
Record: 30-31-6-2

After starting 0-13, the Comets may actually break 70+ points this season, which isn’t bad.

21. Grand Rapids Griffins

Last Week: 20th (down 1)
Record: 35-28-4-2

Yo-yo season for Grand Rapids sees them in third in the final week.

22. San Jose Barracuda

Last Week: 21st (down 1)
Record: 35-26-5-4

San Jose is the last team under this current playoff format, to clinch a berth in the playoffs. Every team in the league (yes, including Bridgeport) has been in this tournament at least once.

23. Iowa Wild

Last Week: 24th (up 1)
Record: 27-36-6-1

At least the Wild are finishing out the season somewhat respectably.

24. Tucson Roadrunners

Last Week: 23rd (down 1)
Record: 33-31-4-2

One spot left in the Pacific. Will Tucson get it?

25. Bakersfield Condors

Last Week: 29th (up 4)
Record: 30-29-7-3

Condors fighting like hell for one of the final playoff spots in the Pacific.

26. Rockford IceHogs

Last Week: 28th (up 2)
Record: 30-31-6-2

IceHogs get in this past weekend and the Central is set.

27. Belleville Senators

Last Week: 26th (down 1)
Record: 33-26-5-5

Senators final week is make or break for playoffs.

28. San Diego Gulls

Last Week: 25th (down 3)
Record: 28-33-5-3

Gulls playoff chances, how slim they were, went out this past weekend.

29. Hartford Wolf Pack

Last Week: 27th (down 2)
Record: 29-32-7-2

Wolf Pack will try to close out the season on a winning note.

30. Henderson Silver Knights

Last Week: 30th (no change)
Record: 28-36-3-2

It’s usually sunny and at least 70 degrees in Henderson, which is more than can be said about other cities in the AHL.

31. Manitoba Moose

Last Week: 31st (no change)
Record: 24-40-3-3

Moose have been playing on par with the Islanders in their last ten and you never want to be compared with Bridgeport.

32. Bridgeport Islanders

Last Week: 32nd (no change)
Record: 15-48-4-3

Horrible season ends this week.

Have a great week, everyone!
