AHL Power Rankings: Week 8

Week 8 here at the Chirps from Center Ice AHL Power Rankings and unlike last week, there isn’t much movement at the top.

We also wouldn’t say that there is a clear, undisputed number one team either. That’s because the top two teams from last week are the same top two teams this week.

I am not going to give it all away in the lede here, so hop through the jump if you didn’t link in direct to see the list this week.

AHL Power Rankings: Week 7

It’s Week 7 here at the Chirps from Center Ice AHL Power Rankings and, as the calendar flips to December, there is a serious logjam at the top this week.

Take for example, the Hershey Bears, who have taken points in their last six games. But that only has Hershey in tenth in this weeks Rankings. Are there really nine teams better than the Bears? Maybe, but there were four teams that didn’t move at all in this weeks Rankings.

There is a new number one this week as the Lehigh Valley Phantoms loss on Saturday to the lowly Hartford Wolf Pack is enough to knock the Phantoms off the top spot. I am not going to give away the new number one team, you will just need to click through the jump if you didn’t link in direct to see who it is.

AHL Power Rankings: Week 6

Week 6, Thanksgiving week here in North America and there is little change at the top this week.

At the bottom, things got shook up.

We don’t do ties here on the blog, but if we ever did, there would be one at the top of the Rankings.

I don’t want to give it away here in the lede, so click through the jump if you didn’t link through direct and have a nice Thanksgiving.

AHL Power Rankings: Week 5

Week 5 and we are approaching mid-November. Have you made Thanksgiving plans yet?

There is a bird at the top of the AHL Power Rankings this week which is the same bird that was number one last week. It’s the Penguins.

Here’s the reasoning why. They get shutout at home by the Toronto Marlies Friday, then turn around and allow the P-Bruins and Wolf Pack to score just one goal a piece. Meanwhile, Toronto goes to Allentown and is obliterated by the Phantoms 7-2. The Penguins are the best team in the AHL despite the setback to the Marlies.

Now the Phantoms? Lehigh Valley is the hottest team in the AHL right now, winners of six straight. They are number two this week and have a huge date with the Penguins at home Wednesday. If the Phantoms win Wednesday, the Chirps from Center Ice clairvoyants foresee Lehigh Valley being number one next week.

But that’s getting too far ahead of ourselves.

If you notice that a team in the top ten this week has fallen far this week, it’s because there are a boatload of teams that are making a case for a higher ranking and really no room in the top 15 or 20 for these teams, which you will see drop out of the top 10 and into the bottom 10.

I won’t keep you any longer. Click through the jump to see the full list if you didn’t link in direct.
