Week 23 AHL Power Rankings

No double digit ups or downs in the Week 23 Chirps from Center Ice AHL Power Rankings.

Your Chicago Wolves and St. John’s IceCaps hold down the 1-2 spots for the second time this week. Both the Wolves and IceCaps are solidly in the playoffs and don’t lead their divisions. They are making it tougher for seeds 5 on back in the Conference.

Biggest risers this week are my your Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins, up 9 spots this week and in a tie for the East Division lead.

Biggest fall this week belongs to your Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Rockford IceHogs. The Sound Tigers have lost four straight after winning seven straight and the IceHogs can’t beat the Milwaukee Admirals.

Week 22 AHL Power Rankings

Well, that was an unexpected weekend.

The Binghamton Senators go to “The Rock” and get swept by the St. John’s IceCaps. Meanwhile, the Norfolk Admirals pasted the AHL’s best Manchester Monarchs. To say that yours truly was expecting either would be wrong.

Hershey has lost six straight. The Penguins still can’t figure it out. The Crunch are too far out to be in the discussion. The B-Sens look like a Jekyll and Hyde team. Does the East Division run through Hampton Roads again?

And that discussion is just one division out of the six that comprise the American Hockey League.

The Chicago Wolves sit atop the Week 22 AHL Power Rankings this week. They are rolling. Biggest risers this week are your Norfolk Admirals.

A Comet and a Bear walk into a bar. I’m bad at jokes. But if you guessed that the punchline is that Utica and Hershey took the biggest slide this week, you get the joke.

The only team not to make a move up or down? Your Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins.

Conference leaders Manchester and Abbotsford remain first and third with East Division leading Binghamton still second.

Week 18 AHL Power Rankings

Microblog: News du jour out of Coal Street Monday were the recalls of D Nick D’Agostino and D Harrison Ruopp and Eric Hartzell being named AHL Goaltender of the Month for January.

Big streaks for the Rochester Americans (7 in a row) and the St. John’s IceCaps (9 of 10 wins) have these respective clubs in the top five this week in the Chirps from Center Ice AHL Power Rankings for Week 18.

But the Binghamton Senators reign above all this week with an impressive five point lead on the rabid pack of dogs in the East Division.

Speaking of the ‘Dogs, the ones that play in Hamilton, they are the team with the sharpest drop this week, down 12.

Ebbing and flowing is in season in the American Hockey League and so too here in the Week 17 Chirps from Center Ice AHL Power Rankings.

Some teams you may not expect are on winning streaks. Some teams you may not expect are on losing streaks. It’s reflected here in the Rankings.

One of those teams for example, are your Bridgeport Sound Tigers, winners of four in a row and whom enjoy the biggest jump in Week 17, up ten spots from last week.

On the other end, the Abbotsford Heat are down nine spots after losing to the Utica Comets twice this weekend in British Columbia this weekend in overtime.

Your Manchester Monarchs are number one in the Rankings again and number one overall in the AHL. It doesn’t appear anyone outside of Springfield right now can catch the Monarchs.
