Last Game: Last Saturday at home, the Pens lost 4-3 in overtime to the Binghamton Senators. Eric Tangradi had a goal and an assist.

Last Meeting: This past Friday in Wilkes-Barre the Pens lost 7-4. Seven different Falcons had goals while Bryan Lerg had two goals.

Record: For WBS: 1-2-1-1 (4 pts., 5th Place East Division) — For SPR: 3-2-0-0 (6 pts., 2nd place Northeast Division)

Why you should care: Penguins need to shake the funk of mediocrity. Playing the Falcons tonight isn’t going to make it easy, but the Penguins can get it done and will if they play sound, fundamental defense and get scoring at the same time.

Record: For WBS: 1-2-0-1 (3 pts., 3rd place East Division) — For BNG: 0-2-1-0 (1 pt., 5th place East Division)

Why you should care: Both teams hungry for first wins of sorts on a Saturday night. For the Pens, the first win on home ice. For the defending champs, the first win period. Should be a fun one tonight in Wilkes-Barre

Last Game: Last night in Rochester, the Pens routed the Amerks and won 5-1. Brian Gibbons was +3 and set up two goals. For Springfield, last Saturday night Albany the Falcons beat the Devils 6-3. Six different Falcons scored goals.

Record: For WBS:  1-1-0-1 (3 pts., 3rd Place East Division) — For SPR: 1-1-0-0 (2 pts., 3rd place Northeast Division)

Why you should care: These aren’t your Uncle’s Springfield Falcons. This team is built to win a Calder Cup this year with guys like Andrew Joudrey, Alex Giroux and Marty St. Pierre on this team. The Falcons are a legitimate threat and could give the Penguins fits tonight with Wilkes-Barre is not ready to play from the First Period puck drop.

Last Game: Sunday afternoon vs. the Whale the Penguins skated to their first ever 1-0 shootout loss in team history. Scott Munroe got the shutout. For Rochester, last Saturday night in Hamilton the Amerks lost 5-2. Captain Colin Stuart had a goal and took 8 shots.

Record: For WBS: 0-1-0-1 (1 pt., 3rd place East Division) — For RCH: 0-1-0-0 (0 pts., 4th place North Division)

Why you should care: This is Rochester’s home opener under the old, new affiliation with the Buffalo Sabres. The Amerks said when the affiliation change happened that they wanted to win another Calder Cup. Both teams are searching for their first win. The Pens will need to play a smart game in order to be the ones who skate away with the victory.

Last Game: Last night in the Penguins home opener and first game of the season vs. Hershey, the Pens lost 3-2. Niko Dimitrakos had a power play goal and Brian Gibbons a shorthanded one for the Pens in the loss. For Connecticut, last night was the Whale’s first game also. They opened on the road against the Adirondack Phantoms and coughed up a 3-1 lead only to lose 6-3. Kris Newbury scored all three goals for the Whale.

Record: For WBS: 0-1-0-0 (0 pts, 3rd place East Division) — For CT: 0-1-0-0 (0 pts., 5th place Northeast Division)

Why you should care: It is a Sunday matinee in Wilkes-Barre. With both teams hungry for their first win, the Pens welcome a team that had their number last season. Mohegan Sun Arena patrons will be able to get a look at NHLers Wade Redden, Stu Bickel and could even see household pest Sean Avery.

Last Game: This is the first game of the year for the Penguins. Last night for the Bears they opened their season in Binghamton as the B-Sens raised their Calder Cup banner. On the ice, the Bears won 3-2. The Bears got two shorthanded goals in the game, one from Christian Hanson and another from Chris Bourque.

Record: For WBS: First game of season. — For HER: 1-0-0-0 (2 pts., 1st place East Division)

Why you should care: The Pens begin their 13th season of existence at home against their biggest rivals. The Bears are many persons choice for Calder Cup Champions this season. The two sides get re-acquainted with one another before what is sure to be a capacity crowd on a Saturday night.
