Last Game: Last night at home against St. John’s, the Penguins lost 5-2. Tom Kostopoulous had two assists in the loss. For Lehigh Valley, the Phantoms beat Albany 4-3 in New York and used three third period goals to do so.

Last Meeting: January 20 in Allentown, the Phantoms won 5-3. Taylor Leier had a goal and two assists, Colin McDonald had three assists for Lehigh Valley. Teddy Blueger had two assists in the losing effort for the Penguins.

Record: For WBS: 33-10-3-0 (69 pts., 1st place Atlantic Division) — For LV: 30-12-2-0 (62 pts., 2nd place Atlantic Division)

Why you should care: Here we go with the Phantoms becoming regular visitors to the Mohegan Sun Arena with the first of six meetings in front of what is going to be a big crowd. The Phantoms will be looking to close within five points of the Penguins for first in the Atlantic and Wilkes-Barre will be looking to shake off the stink of last nights 5-2 frustrating loss to the IceCaps.

Last Game: Last Saturday in Binghamton, the Penguins won 6-2. Tom Kostopoulos scored his 500th AHL point in the win. For the IceCaps, they hosted the Toronto Marlies on last Saturday and were shutout 4-0.

Last Meeting: December 4 in St. John’s the Penguins lost 3-2 in overtime. Oskar Sundqvist and Chad Ruhwedel scored for the Pens in the loss.

Record: For WBS: 33-9-3-0 (69 pts., 1st place Atlantic Division) — For STJ: 20-18-5-1 (46 pts., 3rd place North Division)

Why you should care: Much different IceCaps team from the one we saw in December. This team is a playoff team right now and has been one of the better teams in the North Division for a while now. The Penguins will need a full 60 minute effort tonight if they want to get their unofficial start of the second half of the season off on the right foot.

Record: For WBS: 32-9-3-0 (67 pts., 1st place Atlantic Division) — For BNG: 18-21-2-1 (39 pts., 6th place North Division)

Why you should care: Penguins are going to head into the All-Star break as the best team in the AHL. But, the Binghamton Senators are still going to try to take down the Penguins tonight at home in the two teams last ever meeting tonight on the Southern Tier. Ottawa is shipping its AHL operations to Belleville, Ontario next season.

Last Game: Wednesday at home against the Syracuse Crunch, the Penguins won 3-2 in overtime on David Warsofsky’s shot with 1.2 left in overtime. For Utica, the Comets lost in overtime to the Springfield Thunderbirds 2-1. Pascal Pelletier scored for Utica and Richard Bachman stopped 22 of 24 shots.

Record: For WBS: 31-9-3-0 (65 pts., 1st place Atlantic Division) — For UTI: 18-16-6-1 (43 pts., 4th place North Division)

Why you should care: Utica is 8-1-1-0 in their last ten games and have for all intents and purposes turned things around and gotten back into the playoff discussion in the North Division. This is not a team that the Penguins want to take lightly in an environment which sells out every night.

Last Game: Saturday at home against Hershey, the Pens won 5-1. Ryan Haggerty scored two goals. For Syracuse, the Crunch were shutout at home by the Utica Comets 4-0.

Last Meeting: January 16 in Syracuse, the Crunch won 4-1. Carter Rowney scored for the Penguins, Adam Wilcox stopped 31 shots for the Crunch in goal.

Record: For WBS: 30-9-3-0 (63 pts., 1st place Atlantic Division) — For SYR: 20-12-3-5 (48 pts., 1st place North Division)

Why you should care: Penguins host the North Division leading Crunch in a midweek affair. Call this a trap game for the Penguins here. It’s a sleepy midweek January home game against an opponent who is coming off getting shutout by its biggest rival.

Last Game / Last Meeting : Friday in Allentown, the Pens lost 5-3 to the Phantoms. Teddy Blueger had two assists and was named third star of the game. For Hershey, they last played the Penguins on Wednesday and lost 5-3. Paul Carey and Darren Dietz scored third period goals for the Bears but Carter Rowney scored in his fourth game back to insure the Penguins win.

Record: For WBS: 29-9-3-0 (61 pts., 1st place Atlantic Division) — For HER: 19-11-7-2 (47 pts., 4th place Atlantic Division)

Why you should care: Bears will want to bite back against the Penguins in what is a TV game for Wilkes-Barre in what is expected to be a sellout crowd. Pens are coming off a tough loss last night to the Phantoms who have three games in hand. So you know that the Penguins are going to come out loaded for bear. Pardon the obvious pun.
