Chirps from Center Ice

A fan blog about the AHL's Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins

Tickets please…

Recently I made a list of season ticket prices for Center Ice for all 30 AHL arenas. I did this to see where Wilkes-Barre / Scranton stacked up in the AHL. I was quite surprised. Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza’s prices are the highest in the East Division. Not highest in the league.

What follows is the cost of 2010-2011 season tickets at or near Center Ice in the lower level. If there are different prices for club seats, they are listed as the higher of the two prices, if applicable. All prices are for one year and no multi-year discounts were taken into consideration. For the Canadian teams, prices are listed per the team website. Do your own USD / CAD conversions.

More after the jump:

Texas $1680 / 800
Manitoba $1544
Abbotsford $1358.70
Toronto $1240 / 1040
Bridgeport $1040 / 840
OKC $1040 / 825
Chicago $990 / 720
Lake Erie $920
Houston $880
WBS $840
Charlotte $800 / 710
Adirondack $780 / 660
Manchester $750
San Antonio $720
Hartford $712
Grand Rapids $704
Peoria $700
Hershey $675
Rockford $651
Milwaukee $650
Rochester $650
Hamilton $582.75
Binghamton $555.75
Norfolk $550
Worcester $550
Syracuse $522
Portland $520
Syracuse $520
Providence $500
Springfield $440

Interesting to see Hershey in the middle of the pack on this list. For all that team has accomplished you would think they would charge a pretty penny to have people come see the Bears maul their opponents night after night.

Again, I don’t care if you re-use this on your blog, or wherever. Just credit where it came from.

This is an issue that gets me heated. Ticket prices in WBS are RIDICULOUS. And people wonder why no one goes to the games anymore — not only are they completely overpriced, but the in-game presentation is horrible. There’s very, very few reasons for a casual fan (or non-fan looking for something to do) in the area to go. The only thing worth going for anymore is the hockey itself. I just get frustrated because I remember what it used to be like years ago. It was the best rink to go and play in; and playoffs were incredible. Sadly, it’s changed, and it will continue to decline until the front office steps up their game on several fronts.

    See? I got heated!

I love that Hershey is in the middle of the pack. That’s one of the reasons why they fill their arena every night.

    Good research here!

It’s going to make you more heated when you remember that the Season Ticket value is reduced somewhat than the face value of the ticket itself. Center ice tickets would go for $25 a game x 40 games = $1,000. It’s actually MORE expensive if you buy a ticket on a game-by-game basis.

I think Hershey’s tickets are slightly reduced because they are (or were) owned by Hershey Entertainment which operates Hersheypark.

Yea, but at Hershey you have to pay $7 a game to park.
