Just enough to blog about today. Nothing directly regarding Wilkes-Barre. Let’s get going.*
- The AHL’s Board of Governors wrapped up what the League calls its, “Semi-Annual Meeting.” Basically, they are adopting the NHL’s rules regarding tie breakers and shootouts. (huh?) The first tiebreaker is the team who won the most games excluding games won in the shootout. The AHL also adapted the NHL’s new headshot rule. As expected the crossover rules are back. This time, the East Division gets the benefit of the crossover and it also debuts in the Western Conference with the West Division. You can find more explanation regarding all of this here.
- The Rochester Amerks revealed their third jerseys for this season.
- In the ECHL, the Chicago team has a name and a logo. If you live in the Chicago metro area, you get three different levels of professional hockey. The NHL’s Blackhawks, the AHL’s Wolves and the ECHL’s Express. I wonder if the Express will have some affiliation with the Blackhawks. (The Wolves’ parent team is the Atlanta Thrashers.)
- The OHL put the kibosh to its all-star game.
*- I have no idea once the season starts whether or not I am going to do a daily blog on issues outside of happenings which affect the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins. It’s best to stay tuned!
