Getting Ready…

Tomorrow I’ll have a preview of my Gameday write-ups which will go up every WBS game day, just about 3 to 4 hours before the puck drops on a given game. Look for Saturdays around 4:05.

Meanwhile some news around the league today and with WBS in the mix:

  • Bombulie was all over the Tangradi demotion / call-up today on his blog. It would appears as if  there is something rotten in Denmark which too complex to put into words.
  • Derek Peltier found himself full time work. For the Peoria Rivermen.
  • In addition to the Peltier news, Ben Street was shipped to The Wheel today.
  • The AHL is going to a two ref system for 25% of it’s games this year and for all the Calder Cup Playoffs. Finally.
  • The league also revamped its website and also finally has a mobile site. Check that out.
  • League observer Patrick Williams (@AHLHockeyWriter) checked in with his AHL preseason rankings. Hershey is first and WBS is third. Charlotte is fifth. The East Division is L-O-A-D-E-D this year. Look out.

That’s about it. I got the AHL Live All Access Pass for this season. Goal is to watch at least every team once, not playing WBS. Should have that accomplished by mid-November?

We all know times are tough in this economic recession. The AHL should just give the calder cup to hershey and we’ll see you next year.

I think it’s funny that people get so bitter about Hershey always being picked to be the best. They put together a great team. If they have the best team, then reporters are going to say they’re the best team. I don’t think it’s bias, I think it’s common sense. It doesn’t mean they’re unbeatable; they just don’t have a lot of holes. Hershey is independently owned from Washington – just like the Chicago Wolves are, for example. I don’t know all the ins and outs of how it works, but it gives teams more leeway to bulk up rosters.

FINALLY A TWO-REF SYSTEM. Even if it is for 25%. Why they are still playing with one ref is beyond me. I mean, they even use two in college hockey.
