Prescouting the Admirals…

Figured since I am off work until Tuesday I would play with some numbers before tonight’s heavyweight bout down in Hampton Roads between the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins and the Norfolk Admirals.

Before we do that, let’s get some housekeeping items out of the way:

  • Joey Mormina was signed to a standard players contract by the Penguins yesterday.
  • Joey Haddad was returned to the Wheeling Nailers Wednesday.
  • Alexandre Giroux and Mark Wotton were named honorary captains of the 2011 AHL All-Star Classic in Hershey in January.

OK, now onto the good stuff. The numbers!

  • Tonight’s battle is one of 1-East vs. 2-East and 1-Eastern v. 2-Eastern. These are the two best teams right now in the AHL’s Eastern Conference.
  • Overall, it is a battle of 1 vs. 4 in the entire AHL.
  • WBS is 9-1 in its last 10 games and riding a 6-game winning streak. The Admirals are 7-2-1-0 in their last 10 and are on a point streak of 3-0-1-0.
  • WBS away from Mohegan Sun Arena is 11-1. Norfolk at Scope is 3-2-2-1.
  • WBS power play is ranked 12th overall and it’s penalty kill is 15th overall. Norfolk’s power play is 17th and it’s penalty kill is 9th overall.
  • At home, Norfolk’s power play is 21st, and it’s penalty kill is 14th.
  • On the road, WBS power play is ranked 3rd, while its penalty kill is 20th.

If you really want to geek out on stats, check out the Media Kit for the game, included in the Gameday post coming in about 90 minutes.

Let’s Go Pens!
