Hynes Named Coach of the Year

In an announcement that should surprise no one, the AHL announced today that Wilkes-Barre / Scranton head coach John Hynes was announced winner of the Louis A. R. Pieri Memorial Award which is awarded to the most outstanding coach during the season.

League presser is here with all the details.

In my opinion, this was a no-brainer. You are the coach of the best team in the league. Not only that, but you are coaching in a division with a team which has won eleven Calder Cups in Hershey. This is all while maintaining a double-digit lead in the division with basically an ECHL lineup up front.

Bombulie had some good quotes from players over on his blog today. He also posted a Wednesday update a post down.

If you are scoring at home like I am, that’s two major individual awards this week for the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins. Friday the league MVP is awarded. It is anticipated that Brad Thiessen takes home that award.

Go Pens.
