Ferriero / Sneep Traded 1/24

Announced today that the Penguins traded Benn Ferriero to the New York Rangers in exchange for Chad Kolarik and Traded Carl Sneep to the Dallas Stars for a draft pick.

First, the Ferriero news. Benn never really caught fire with the Penguins after spending a large amount of time last season with the San Jose Sharks. At times it felt to me that he was in Coach John Hynes’ doghouse for one reason or another.

Kolarik is an All-Star with the Connecticut Whale and will represent Wilkes-Barre alongside Beau Bennett in Providence in a few days. He instantly becomes the leading scorer on the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton roster with 16 goals, 19 assists and 35 points. Here’s a couple of tweets on Kolarik:

Sneep was just a victim of depth. After his injury last season he fell off the radar. The lockout this year didn’t help him either. He’ll be assigned to Dallas’ affiliate Texas, and will join an already loaded Texas Stars lineup in Cedar Park.

Jonathan tweeted earlier that Kolarik, Mark Eaton and Tom Kostopoulos are expected to be in the lineup tomorrow when the Penguins visit Rochester. He also reports that Beau Bennett is doubtful for tomorrow but may play Saturday in Toronto.

Overall, huge gains made in Wilkes-Barre during the last 24 hours. Makes me think that the brain trust at Coal Street means business with the moves today and the Kostopoulos and Eaton moves yesterday. Who knows. Just have to sit back and watch it develop.
