Pens vs. Wolf PackOctober 15th, 2016
46 days to go.
A fan blog about the AHL's Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins
No change to the top two this week (!!!) so that means your Grand Rapids Griffins and Albany Devils remain top dogs in the Week 10 Chirps from Center Ice Power Rankings.
Everyone else, for the most part, moved around. I struggled with 21-30 this week. So let me know if your team is ranked there if I did a good job ranking your team.
Biggest gainer this week are your Bridgeport Sound Tigers while the biggest losers this week are the Binghamton Senators. Sound Tigers vault up 11 spots, while the B-Sens drop 11.
If you didn’t link through, hop through the jump to see the rest:
|Rank||Team||Last Week||Comment||This Week|
|1||No change||Seven in a row for the Griffins, who hold on to the #1 spot for a second week in a row.||Host CHI Wed., MIL Fri. & Sat.|
|2||No change||Surprise first quarter team has to be your Albany Devils, who get in games where 10+ goals are scored, and win them.||Home and home with BRI Tue. & Fri., Host HFD Sat.|
|3||4th (+1)||Falcons beat everyone this week but Albany, who just won’t go away. In the midst of a six game road trip.||@ WBS Wed., NOR Fri. & Sat.|
|4||3rd (-1)||Maybe the Monarchs aren’t as good as everyone thinks, pasted in Providence Friday 7-2 by the Bruins.||@ WOR Fri., ADK Sat., Host BRI Sun.|
|5||8th (+3)||Heat respond to the sweep by Utica with their own sweep of the Rampage. Abbotsford is the first AHL team to 40 points.||Host IA Wed. & Thu.|
|6||5th (-1)||Coach John Hynes earning his paycheck these days, doing more with less and still on top of the East Division with a patchwork lineup.||Host SPR Wed., HER Fri., UTI Sat.|
|7||10th (+3)||The seesaw battle of who will lead the North continues. This week, your Hamilton Bulldogs! Next week? Stay tuned!||Host TOR Fri., STJ Sat.|
|8||9th (+1)||Marlies in a race with four other teams for tops in the North, currently the tightest division race, as it’s been for weeks.||@ HAM Fri., Host STJ Sun.|
|9||7th (-2)||Those two points lost to the Penguins Saturday may come back and haunt the IceCaps later in the year.||Host SYR Tues. & Wed., @ HAM Sat., TOR Sun.|
|10||17th (+7)||Stars win three this week. Have separated from the bottom dwellers of the West, but still trail leader Abbotsford by 8 points.||Host CHI Fri., @ SA Sun.|
|11||25th (+14)||The Sound Tigers may be the hottest team in the Eastern Conference, winners of 5 of their last 6.||Home and home with ALB Tues. & Fri., Host PRO Sat., @ MCH Sun.|
|12||13th (+1)||I’ve said all along that if Lake Erie could find some consistency, they would outright lead the North. Instead, they haven’t won more than three games in a row.||@ RCH Wed. & Fri. UTI Sun.|
|13||11th (-2)||Hogs split with the Checkers. Can’t really be happy with that if you are Rockford.||Host OKC Fri. & Sat., @ IA Sun.|
|14||15th (+1)||Unimpressive victories against teams that the Ads should beat. But the points matter.||Host OKC Thu., GR Fri. & Sat.|
|15||12th (-3)||This Phantom team is like many, hot and cold. A loss to the resurgent Sound Tigers and then wins vs. Hartford and Utica.||@ HFD Fri., Host MCH Sat.|
|16||18th (+2)||5 of 6 for the Sharks, who are out of last in the Atlantic. Had they not coughed up a 4-3 lead Saturday vs. the Bruins, a perfect weekend.||Host MCH Fri., @ POR Sat.|
|17||6th (-11)||B-Sens faltering, losing the last four. Big games this week with the Bears and Comets.||Host HER Wed., @ UTI Fri., HER Sat.|
|18||19th (+1)||I don’t think the P-Bruins brought their best stuff Sunday against a Portland team that had lost 5 straight. They get the Buccos twice this week, so, we’ll see.||Home and home with POR., @ BRI Sat.|
|19||24th (+5)||Norfolk goes to rival Syracuse and battle back Friday then complete the sweep Saturday. Hot on the heels of the Pens and Sens.||Host SPR Fri. & Sat., @ CHA Sun.|
|20||21st (+1)||Bears showing some life or is a win followed by a loss followed by a win, etc. going to be a theme?||@ BNG Wed., WBS Fri., Host BNG Sat.|
|21||14th (-7)||Wolves won five in a row a month ago and have since won two of their last six. They’ve slipped to fourth in the Midwest.||@ GR Wed., TEX Fri., SA Sat.|
|22||20th (-2)||Call-ups hurting rival WBS also, but the Pens are getting points. Not the case in Syracuse, where they seem to be giving them away.||@ STJ Tues. & Wed., Host RCH Sat.|
|23||22nd (-1)||Amerks get the Monsters this week, once indoors and once outdoors in the Frozen Frontier. Oh, they went to Grand Rapids this week and got pasted in both games.||Host LE Wed., Fri., @ SYR Sat.|
|24||20th (-4)||Was the 4 of 5 wins last week a mirage? Three losses this week.||Host BNG Fri., @ WBS Sat., Host LE Sun.|
|25||23rd (-2)||Four losses in a row for the Rampage. San Antonio has a slate of winnable games ahead.||@ CHA Tue. & Thu., Host CHI Sat., TEX Sun.|
|26||No change||Loss to Milwaukee then a split with the Wolves. 3 out of 6 points isn’t a terribly bad weekend for the Barons.||@ MIL Thu., RFD Fri. & Sat.|
|27||No change||Pirates halt a 5 game losing streak with a 4-2 win Sunday in Providence.||Home and home with PRO Wed. & Fri., Host WOR Sat.|

|29||30 (-1)||Are Checkers fans happy that their teams splits with their opponents?||Host SA Tue. & Thu., NOR Sun.|
|30||28th (-2)||After staring the season 5-0-0-1, the Pack have slipped to 4-13-0-1. Yikes.||Host ADK Fri., @ ALB Sat.|
