AHL Power Rankings: Week 15

If this were a NASCAR race, the crossed flags would be up at the start / finish line, signifying the halfway point of the race.

For a lot of teams, the half way point of the 2015-16 season came and went this past weekend. Some are in the drivers seat in the division; the passenger seat; the back seat and running to chase the car down.

I totally don’t even know if you can use multiple semicolons in one sentence like I did right there. If you are an English major and can help me out, the comments are open.

Anyway, getting back on track, the Toronto Marlies remain the number one team this week for the second week in a row, trailed by the best team we think in the Central Division right now. And in case you were wondering, it not the Grand Rapids Griffins or the division leading Rockford IceHogs.

Hit the jump to find out who and to see where your favorite team ended up this week.

Marlies remain at the top of the Rankings for a second straight week. This week, home cooking against a pair of resilient teams.

Coolest thing that happened this weekend in the AHL was the 1-0 overtime win by the Griffins over the Monsters Friday. They played the entire five minute overtime then reviewed a Nick Jensen shot that went through the net during overtime. Otherwise, Grand Rapids went 2-1-1 for the week and their 14 game home win streak ended Sunday vs. Chicago.

I am not sure you are aware of what Milwaukee went through at the end of December and the beginning of January. They had 9 games in 16 days the max allowed under league rules. And it wasn’t all home or all road it was r, h,h,r,h,r,h,r,h. So they didn’t know which way was coming or going. On December 31 they were in first in the conference. We went 4-5 in that stretch. Since we have come back with 2 strong wins on the road in San Antonio. We have more road than home games going forward but I’ll take 11-5-2-0 on the road! We are 14-8-0-0 at home. We should be ranked higher.

Two weeks ago after the 5 games in 7 days stretch you played you were in second. Last week you were 12th.

I guess what I am trying to say is that it’s easier to get to the top and stay then it is to get to the top, falter, then get to the top again quickly.
