AHL Power Rankings: The Double Issue

Welcome to a jam packed Double Issue of the Chirps from Center Ice AHL Power Rankings. I sincerely hope you all had a nice Christmas and New Years holiday. The Power Rankings return after a two week holiday hiatus and there is a lot to get to.

There is a third place team in the Atlantic playing like the best team in the AHL.

A familiar face at the top of the Pacific and the Central Division.

A couple of quietly underrated, dangerous teams and…

…the defending champs making a push.

Click through the jump if you didn’t link in direct to see where the teams lined up this week.

One team that isn’t ready to let 2016 go is the Providence Bruins, who lost just one game in December. This team is just shredding its opponents right now.

Best statistical team in the AHL are not the best team in the AHL nor the best team in the division, that distinction belongs to the Providence Bruins. Big week this week for the Penguins, who aren’t “must win” Tuesday against Hartford, but dangerously close.

Syracuse leads the North Division because one team has to. We think its safe to pencil in the Crunch as a playoff contender, but at some point the nonstop call-ups will get to this team and we don’t think they will end the regular season where they started 2017.
