AHL Game: 755

Who: Syracuse Crunch

Where: Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter

When: 7:30 p.m. EST

Media Kit

Last Game: For WBS: Last night home vs. the Manitoba Moose, the Pensl lost 3-2. Nick Johnson and Zach Sill tallied goals for the Pens. For SYR: Last night in Glens Falls the Crunch shut out the Phantoms 5-0. Patrick Maroon had 2 goals, ex-Pen Nate Guenin had three assists and J-P Levasseur had the shutout for Syracuse.

Record: For WBS,  36-13-0-0 (72 pts., 1st place East Division) – For SYR, 17-26-2-4 (40 pts., 6th place East Division)

Last Meeting: January 19 in Wilkes-Barre, the Pens won 4-1. Andrew Hutchinson made his return from injury and notched an assist.

Why you should care: The Penguins are on….wait for it….their first losing streak of the season having now lost two in a row. No way they lose three, not to Syracuse, right? The Crunch have given us problems all year. The Penguins are a bit down, having Dustin Jeffrey and Eric Tangradi up on recall to Pittsburgh. The Pens have played well enough to win games but haven’t put a full 60-minute effort together for some time. They need to turn it around or else we will all look back at this point of the season as the point it went sour.

Last Game: Last Saturday in Binghamton, the Pens lost 2-1. Nick Johnson scored the lone goal for the Pens. For the Moose, last Saturday in Toronto Manitoba won 3-1. Ryan Cruthers had a goal and an assist in the win.

Record: For WBS, 34-12-0-0 (68 pts., 1st place East Division) For MTB, 26-14-1-5 (58 pts., 2nd place North Division)

Why you should care: Manitoba is a good opponent coming in from the AHL’s North Division. Eddie Lack is a great young goaltender. Sami Salo is coming down from parent Vancouver on a conditioning stint. This is not going to be an easy game for the Pens. If they win, it’ll be a very good sign because if the Pens can beat the Moose they can beat any team.

Last Game: For WBS: Last night in Albany, the Pens won 4-1. Rookie Defenseman Carl Sneep had two goals. For BNG: Last night home vs. Hershey the Senators lost 3-2. Rookie sensation Bobby Butler had a goal for the B-Sens.

Record: For WBS, 36-11-0-0 (72 pts., 1st place East Division) For BNG, 23-20-2-3 (51 pts., 5th place East Division)

Last Meeting: December 3 in Wilkes-Barre, the Pens won 4-2. Chris Collins had a pair of goals for the Pens in the win.

Why you should care: The Senators are right in the thick of this playoff race and can not afford to lose two straight games on home ice heading into the All-Star break. The Sens have played Wilkes-barre tough all season, which means this game is going to be a fun one to watch tonight. Bobby Butler and Corey Locke are going to All-Stars, Locke as the leagues point leader and Butler as the leagues rookie point leader. Thee Pens will need to hold one of if not both of them off the score sheet to have success tonight in Binghamton.

Last Game: For WBS: Wednesday at home vs. Charlotte, the Pens won 6-4. Ryan Craig, Dustin Jeffrey and Tim Wallace all had two goals apiece. For ALB: This past Tuesday in Bridgeport the Devils won 6-4. Jacob Josefson had two goals and an assist.

Record: For WBS, 35-11-0-0 (70 pts., 1st place East Division) — For ALB, 18-23-0-3 (39 pts., 6th place East Division)

Last Meeting: This past Saturday at home the Pens won 6-2. Six different Penguins scored goals.

Why you should care: If recently signed PTO Alexander Pechurskiy gets the nod in net, it could get interesting. If not and John Curry gets the nod, then it’s business as usual for WBS. Andrew Hutchinson has appeared out of sorts recently, can he get it back on track?

AHL Game: 699

Who: Charlotte Checkers

Where: Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza

When: 7:05 p.m. EST

Last Game / Last Meeting: This past Sunday at home the Pens were dealt their worst loss in some time, losing 9-5. For the Pens, Brett Sterling had two goals. For the Checkers, Zach Boychuk had three goals and an assist. Zac Dalpe had 4 assists.

Record: For WBS, 34-11-0-0 (68 pts., 1st place East Division) For CHA, 25-16-1-4 (55 pts., 4th place East Division)

Why you should care: Charlotte beat up the Pens Sunday. Curry was destroyed that game but it was more due to fatigue on his part having played every game of the weekend leading up to the Sunday afternoon game. The Checkers will be without the services of Zach Boychuk who was recalled to parent Carolina Monday morning. The Checkers, along with the Admirals and Bears are gunning for the top spot in the East. The Pens know this. They are rested and ready for the rematch this evening. Look for an entirely different game tonight.

Last Game: Last night at home in front of a sellout crowd the Pens beat the Albany Devils 6-2. The Captain Ryan Craig had three assists. For CHA: Friday at home they lost to the Springfield Falcons 6-5. The Falcons scores 5 goals in the second period. Zac Dalpe for the Checkers had a goal and three assists in the loss.

Last Meeting: January 5 in Charlotte the Pens won in a shootout 3-2. Chris Collins had a goal and an assist in the win.

Record: For WBS, 34-10-0-0 (68 pts., 1st place East Division) For CHA, 24-16-1-4 (53 pts., 4th place East Division)

Why you should care: This Charlotte team is better than the Charlotte team we faced a few weeks ago. Zach Boychuck and Zac Dalpe are bluechippers in the Carolina system playing out their days at the minor league level. They are huge contributors to this team. Look for Justin Pogge to get the start this afternoon. The Checkers are trying to fight back into the race for second and trying to keep the pursuing Bears and Senators at bay. With another near sellout crowd expected, look for a very competitive game today.

Last Game: For WBS: Yesterday in Philadelphia vs. the Adirondack Phantoms the Pens lost 4-2. Geoff Walker and Keven Veilleux had goals for the Pens. For ALB: Last night in Hershey the Devils lost 8-3. Pest Louis Robitaille was thrown out of the game at 4:22 for charging the goaltender.

Record: For WBS, 33-10-0-0 (66 pts., 1st place East Division) — For ALB, 17-22-0-3 (37 pts., 6th place East Division)

Last Meeting: December 26 in Wilkes-Barre, the Pens won in a shootout 5-4. Bryan Lerg had two goals in regulation.

Why you should care: Game officially sold out Friday morning. Game is going to be televised locally in Wilkes-Barre. Pens are coming off the worst loss of the season last night. How the Pens respond tonight is going to set the stage for how the next 20 games will play out in my mind. If tonight is a blowout win, other teams better take notice. If it is a grind it out loss, other teams will take notice that Wilkes-Barre is vulnerable. Boys probably can’t wait to get this one going tonight. On both sides because Albany wants to put last night thrashing by the Bears behind them too.
