Away  Game 21

AHL Game: 650

Who: Adirondack Phantoms

Where: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia PA

When: 7:00 p.m. EST

Media Kit

Last Game: For WBS: Wednesday home vs. Syracuse, the Pens won 4-1. It was the return of Andrew Hutchinson from injury. Hutch had an assist and was a +1. Meanwhile the horrible power play struck for three power play goals. For ADK: This past Sunday at Syracuse the Phantoms won 5-2. Danny Syvret was a +3 and had an assist.

Record: For WBS,  33-9-0-0 (66 pts., 1st place East Division) – For ADK, 12-27-2-2 (28 pts., 8th Place East Division)

Last Meeting: January 15 in Glens Falls the Pens won 4-2. Nick Johnson had a goal and an assist.

Why you should care: The Phantoms are going to have a lot of eyes watching them in their parents living room in Philadelphia. You know they want to come out and put on a good show for them and for the entire Flyers front office who is going to be in attendance. For the Pens, it’s good training for going into a hostile building which is sure to be a raucous environment and do what it takes to win the game.

When: 7:05 p.m. EST

Last Game: For WBS: This past Sunday in Connecticut, the Pens lost 6-3. Steve Wagner had a goal and an assist in the loss. For SYR: Last night in Norfolk, the Crunch lost 2-1. Nick Bonino had the goal in the loss.

Record: For WBS,  32-9-0-0 (64 pts., 1st place East Division) – For SYR, 15-22-1-4 (35 pts., 7th place East Division)

Last Meeting: December 29 in Wilkes-Barre, the Pens shutout the Crunch 5-0. Nick Johnson had a hat-trick and Brad Thiessen earned the shutout in net.

Why you should care: Pens are looking to bounce back from an uncharacteristic loss Sunday. They are also looking to get the power play clicking in the right direction again. Andrew Hutchinson could return this game, which would be huge. Syracuse got in early this morning after bussing in last night from Norfolk, so expect some tired Crunch bodies.

Last Game: For WBS: Last night in Glens Falls vs. the Phantoms, the Pens won 4-2.  Ryan Craig and Nick Johnson both had a goal and an assist each. For CT: Last night vs. Providence, the Whale lost 3-2. Oren Eizenman had a goal and an assist for the Whale in the loss.

Record: For WBS,  32-8-0-0 (64 pts., 1st place East Division) – For CT, 20-16-2-5 (47 pts., 3rd Place Atlantic Division)

Why you should care: The Whale are a gritty, in your face team which have pulled themselves out of last place in the Atlantic all the way up to 3rd place in the Atlantic. They have lost their two games this weekend while Wilkes-Barre has won. The Whale need a win to keep pace in the competitive Atlantic while Wilkes-Barre wants to sweep the weekend. What gives? We find out this afternoon!

Last Game: For WBS: Last night in Providence, the Pens won 2-0. Brad Thiessen earned the shutout in net for the Penguins as Geoff Walker and Brett Sterling scored the two goals. For ADK: Last night vs. Hershey, the Phantoms were shutout 3-0.

Record: For WBS,  31-8-0-0 (62 pts., 1st place East Division) – For ADK, 11-26-2-2 (26 pts., 8th Place East Division)

Last Meeting: December 4 in Wilkes-Barre, the Pens won 3-2. Eric Tangradi and Dustin Jeffrey both had a goal and an assist.

Why you should care: The Phantoms are alot better then what they were last time we saw them. They have Michael Leighton now, victim of the numbers game in Philadelphia as their #1 goaltender. Things are finally starting to click for the once hapless Phantoms and if Wilkes-Barre does not take this game serious, they will lose.

AHL Game: 608

Who: Providence Bruins

Where: Dunkin’ Donuts Center

When: 7:05 p.m. EST

Last Game: This past Saturday vs. these same Providence Bruins, the Pens won 2-1 in overtime with Dustin Jeffrey netting the game-winner. For Providence: Sunday home vs. Bunghamton, the P-Bruins lost 5-3. Jordan Caron had two goals and an assist in the loss.

Last Meeting: January 8 in Wilkes-Barre the Penguins won 2-1 in overtime. Bruins goaltender Nolan Schaefer made 50 saves.

Record: For WBS, 30-8-0-0 (60 pts., 1st place East Division) For PRO, 15-18-3-1 (34 pts., 7th place Atlantic Division)

Why you should care: In what should have been a cake-walk for the first place overall Penguins turned out to be a defensive struggle last Saturday vs. these same Bruins. The power play was anemic going 0 for 6. After a week to rest some hurt bodies and to work on special teams, look for a much more wide open game this evening in the Rhode Island capital.

Last Game: Last night vs. Bridgeport, the Pens won 5-2. Brett Sterling finally found the goal column and added two assists and was named the first star. For PRO: Last night vs. the Manchester Monarchs the Bruins shutout the Monarchs 3-0. Matt Dalton had the shutout for the Bruins.

Record: For WBS, 29-8-0-0 (58 pts., 1st place East Division) For PRO, 15-17-2-1 (33 pts., 7th place Atlantic Division)

Why you should care: The Pens want to continue their dominance over the teams outside their division and want to pick up another 2 points with a win over the last place Providence Bruins. Providence wants to keep the momentum up and give the league’s best team a run for their money.

AHL Game: 567

Who: Bridgeport Sound Tigers

Where: Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza

When: 7:05 p.m. EST

Last Game: This past Wednesday in Charlotte, the Pens won in a shootout 3-2. Chris Collins had a goal and an assist in the win. For BRI: This past Wednesday vs. the Portland Pirates, the Sound Tigers lost 5-3. Brandon Svendsen had a goal and an assist in the defeat.

Record: For WBS, 28-8-0-0 (56 pts., 1st place East Division) For BRI, 18-16-1-2 (39 pts., 5th place Atlantic Division)

Why you should care: Against teams outside the East Division, the Pens are 8-0. Bridgeport used to be in the East Division before the realignment two years ago. The Pens are humming along while the Sound Tigers are struggling for their playoff lives. Look for WBS to jump on the Sound Tigers early so as not to make a game of it late.
