Away Game 5

AHL Game: 166

Who: Rochester Americans

Where: Blue Cross Arena

When: 7:35 p.m. EST

Last Game: For WBS: Last Saturday in Hershey, the Pens dominated the 11-time Calder Cup Champions in front of their fans and won, 6-2. Chris Conner had a three point night (2+1) and was the games third star. For Rochester: Last Saturday in Glens Falls the Amerks beat the Phantoms 5-3. Ex-Penguin Bill Thomas was a +3 with three points (2+1) and rookie defenseman Colby Robak had two goals, the game tying goal and the go ahead goal and was named the games first star.

Record: For WBS, 8-0-0-0 (16 pts., 1st place East Division) — For RCH, 6-4-1-0 (13 pts., 2nd place North Division)

Why you should care: This is going to be a true test for the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins tonight as Amerks goaltender Jacob Markstrom who is expected to get the start tonight is no joke. He is probably one of the reasons why the Americans are at the top of the North Division this year. WBS will have its first look at one of the more premiere goaltenders in this league.

Away Game 4

AHL Game: 135

Who: Hershey Bears

Where: GIANT Center

When: 7:00 p.m. EST

Last Game: For WBS: In Glens Falls, the Pens won 4-1 to stay undefeated. Andrew Hutchinson back from recall from Pittsburgh had two assists. Rookie Carl Sneep scored his first professional goal. For Hershey: Last night in Syracuse, the Bears won in overtime 4-3. Boyd Kane had two goals, including the overtime game winner and took 8 SOG. Lawrence Nycholat was a +4.

Record: For WBS, 7-0-0-0 (14 pts., 1st place East Division) — For HER, 5-2-0-1 (11 pts., 2nd place East Division)

Last Meeting: On 10/22, Wilkes-Barre won 3-2. Joe Vitale had two goals.

Why you should care: Save for no injuries or call ups to Pittsburgh, this is the best the Penguins lineup is going to look. Hershey isn’t completely at 100% with injuries to Sheldon Souray and #1 Goaltender Braden Holtby in Washington currently. Wilkes-Barre is heading into GIANT Center, where they had no success last year looking to send what is sure to be a packed house home sad tonight. Win three in a row against The Champs and consider the tone set as to where the East Division Championship is going this year.

@

Away Game 3

AHL Game: 117

Who: Adirondack Phantoms

Where: Glens Falls Civic Center

When: 7:30 p.m. EST

Last Game: vs. Binghamton last Saturday, Wilkes-Barre won to stay perfect, 2-1 in a shootout. Steve Wagner had a regulation goal, John Curry made 37 saves. For Adirondack: Last Sunday @ Hershey, they lost 4-2. Patrick Maroon had a goal and an assist.

Record: For WBS,  6-0-0-0 (12 pts., 1st place East Division) – For ADK, 2-6-1-0 (5 pts., 7th Place East Division)

Last Meeting: 10/12 in Wilkes-Barre Township, the Pens won 2-1. Tim Wallace had a power play goal.

Why you should care: Last time these two teams met, it was closer than it should have been. Adirondack has been dismantled in their last two games by Hershey which we beat twice. Add recently demoted Andrew Hutchinson and Eric Tangradi to an already potent Penguins lineup. Wilkes-Barre taking its traveling show on the road and are out to smash the Phantoms tonight.

GAMEDAY: v. Binghamton 10/23

vs.

Home Game 4

AHL Game: 98

Who: Binghamton Senators

Where: Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza

When: 7:05 p.m. EST

Last Game: For WBS last night v. Hershey, the Penguins won 3-2. Joe Vitale had two goals. For Bingo at Hartford last night the Senators won 1-0. Erik Condra had the goal for Bingo and Barry Brust had the shutout.

Record: For WBS, 5-0-0-0 (10 pts., 1st place East Division) For BNG, 3-3-0-0 (6 pts., 4th place East Division)

Why you should care: Bingo is good this year, but we are better. At least up to this point. Corey Locke is no joke for the Sens. Kaspars Daugavins always fills up the score sheet for the Sens. Bingo knows we are the last undefeated team in the AHL. They’d love to be the first team to send us home losers.

GAMEDAY: v. Hershey 10/22

vs.

Home Game 3

AHL Game: 86

Who: Hershey Bears

Where: Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza

When: 7:05 p.m. EST

Last Game: For WBS: In Charlotte, the Pens won 4-3. Tim Wallace scored two goals. For Hershey: Their home opener against Rochester saw the Bears lose by a score of 3-2. Brian Willsie had a goal and an assist.

Record: For WBS, 4-0-0-0 (8 pts., 1st place East Division)  – For HER, 2-1-0-1 (5 pts., 4th place East Division)

Last Meeting: Wilkes-Barre won in a shootout, 4-3. Andrew Hutchinson had a two point night. Kyle Greentree had a goal and an assist and was gunning with 8 shots.

Why you should care: In keeping with last time these teams met, the Calder Cup goes through Hershey again it seems. Hershey lost their last game to Rochester. “Losing streak” and “Hershey Bears” just don’t go together in the AHL language. The Pens are on a roll to start the season. Is Hershey the first roadblock?

Away Game 2

AHL Game: 59

Who: Charlotte Checkers

Where: Time Warner Cable Arena

When: 3 p.m. EST

Last Game: @ Charlotte, the Pens won 4-2. Dustin Jeffrey had 2 goals. For Charlotte: In the loss to WBS Friday, Jerome Samson was named third star with a goal and nine shots.

Record: For WBS, 3-0-0-0 (6 pts., 1st place East Division) For CHA, 1-3-0-0 (2 pts., 8th place East Division)

Last meeting: Just this past Friday, the Pens beat the Checkers by a score of 4-2.

Why you should care: Charlotte is better than this. They know it inside their heads. They are much better than their last place showing in the standings indicates currently. Now that they have seen the Pens live and in person, look for a closer game.

Away Game 1

AHL Game: 35

Who: Charlotte Checkers

Where: Time Warner Cable Arena

When: 7 p.m. EST

Last Game: vs. Adirondack this past Tuesday, the Pens won 2-1. Tim Wallace had a power play goal. For Charlotte: They wrapped up their three game jaunt to the Atlantic Division Monday @ Portland, and lost 5-1. Jerome Samson had 12 shots in the loss.

Why you should care: The Checkers are last years Albany River Rats and Wilkes-Barre is coming into their arena for their home opener looking to spoil what is sure to be a packed, sold out house. The Pens will be  looking to ruin the party and show who is going to be the dominant team in the East Division this year.
