Away Game 9

AHL Game: 264

Who: Hershey Bears

Where: GIANT Center

When: 7:00 p.m. EST

Last Game: For WBS: Last night v. Norfolk, the Pens lost 4-1. Tim Wallace had the lone goal on the powerplay. For HER, they were in Binghamton last night and lost 4-2. Dmitri Kugryshev had two assists in the defeat.

Record: For WBS, 12-3-0-0 (24 pts., 1st place East Division) — For HER, 9-6-0-1 (19 pts., 5th place East Division)

Last Meeting: On 10/30 in Hershey, the Penguins dominated the Bears on their home ice and won handily, 6-2. Chris Conner had two goals.

Why you should care: Easy. It’s Hershey and Wilkes-Barre on a Saturday night in the fall. Nothing more needs said about it. If you had to press me, you should care because we have won three straight vs. Hershey. Can we make it four in a row? Can we win again tonight on the Bears’ home ice? If we are successful and beat Hershey again, we can pretty much beat any team in the league. Both teams are coming off sour losses last night, so expect an up-tempo game from the start.

GAMEDAY: v. Norfolk 11/19

vs.

Home Game 7

AHL Game: 259

Who: Norfolk Admirals

Where: Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza

When: 7:05 p.m. EST

Last Game: For WBS: Tuesday in Albany Wilkes-Barre dominated the Devils and cruised to a 4-1 victory. Dustin Jeffrey had a goal and two assists. For Norfolk: This past Sunday in Worcester, the Admirals lost 3-1. Paul Szczechura had the lone goal for the Admirals in defeat.

Record: For WBS, 12-2-0-0 (24 pts., 1st place East Division) — For NOR, 7-4-3-1 (18 pts., 4th place East Division)

Why you should care: The Admirals are out to prove that they are not the darkhorse in the division, but bonafide contender by wanting to come in and hand the Pens a loss on home ice. Familiar face Marc-Antoine Pouliot is skating for the Admirals and is 11th in league scoring. Cedrick Desjardins is their #1 goaltender and was an All-Star last year for the Hamilton Bulldogs. Norfolk is also the last team in the division we play the first time tonight and we are looking to continue the seperation from us and the rest of the competition with a convincing win this evening.

Away Game 8

AHL Game: 235

Who: Albany Devils

Where: Times Union Center

When: 7:00 p.m. EST

Last Game: For WBS: Saturday in Worcester, the Pens won 2-0. Brad Thiessen was the star of the show shutting out the Sharks. He stopped all 38 shots he faced. Tim Wallace and Ryan Craig had goals. For ALB: The Devils lost 3-2 in Portland against the Pirates. Familiar pest Louis Robitaille had an assist, two shots and 17 PIM. He was suspended Monday by the league for his actions in the game and will not play tonight.

Record: For WBS, 11-2-0-0 (22 pts., 1st place East Division) — For ALB, 6-8-0-0 (12 pts., 7th place East Division)

Why you should care: The Albany Devils are last years Lowell Devils, essentially the same team with a different demonic looking logo on their sweater. The team is dealing with call-ups, so it’s core may be a bit fractured. Look for Wilkes-Barre to pounce on the Devils early so as not to make a game of it late.

Away Game 7

AHL Game: 227

Who: Worcester Sharks

Where: DCU Center

When: 7:00 p.m. EST

Last Game: For WBS: Last night v. Bingo, the Pens lost 5-1. Chris Collins had the lone goal for Wilkes-Barre. For Worcester: Last night @ Manchester, the Sharks won 3-1. Benn Ferriero had two goals for the Sharks.

Record: For WBS, 10-2-0-0 (20 pts., 1st place East Division) — For WOR, 6-3-1-2 (15 pts., 3rd place Atlantic Division)

Why you should care: Wilkes-Barre travels for the first time this year to the Atlantic Division and is visiting the Atlantic Division’s Divisional Champions tonght. The Sharks played us tough last year. Worcester would love to keep the losing streak going as they host us in Central Massachusetts this evening.

GAMEDAY: v. Binghamton 11/12

vs.

Home Game 6

AHL Game: 215

Who: Binghamton Senators

Where: Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza

When: 7:05 p.m. EST

Last Game: This past Sunday in Rochester the Pens won 2-1. Ryan Craig had a goal and Brad Thiessen stopped 19 of 20 shots to improve to 6-0-0-0. For Bingo, this past Wednesday the Sens lost at home to Rochester 6-4.  Bobby Butler scored his 10th goal of the season, tops among AHL rookies.

Record: For WBS, 10-1-0-0 (20 pts., 1st place East Division) For BNG, 6-5-1-1 (14 pts., 5th place East Division)

Last Meeting: October 23 in Wilkes-Barre, the Pens won in a shootout 2-1. Defenseman Steve Wagner had the regulation goal. Corey Locke scored with 10.6 seconds left in regulation to tie the game and Chris Conner deftly stickhandled around a diving Barry Brust in the shootout to seal the Pens win.

Why you should care: Despite the 5th place standings in the East Division at the present, the Sens are better than this. They have been dealing with a turnstile of call-ups to parent Ottawa and from ECHL affiliate Elmira. For Wilkes-Barre it is a chance to seperate itself even further from foes in the East Division.

Away Game 6

AHL Game: 189

Who: Rochester Americans

Where: Blue Cross Arena

When: 5:05 p.m. EST

Last Game: For WBS: Last night vs. Syracuse, Wilkes-Barre lost 4-3. Brett Sterling had two goals in the loss. For Rochester: Last night at Albany, Rochester won 6-4. Ex-Penguin Bill Thomas had a three point night with two goals and an assist (yet still was a -1).

Record: For WBS, 9-1-0-0 (18 pts., 1st place East Division)  — For RCH, 7-5-1-0 (15 pts., 3rd place North Division)

Last Meeting: This past Friday in Rochester, the Pens won by a score of 5-4. Five different players scored for the Pens. Michael Duco had a goal and an assist for the Americans.

Why you should care: This is the tail end of the first three-in three for the Penguins. Due to silly AHL scheduling, this is the second game in three nights in Rochester for the Penguins with a home date last night against division rival Syracuse sandwiched in between. Rochester bussed to Albany last night so there may be no real advantage. There could be a bout of tired legs spread across the ice this evening in Rochester. Could very well be whichever team scores first today wins, Penguins want to make sure it is them who light the lamp first. Penguins lost last night, so they want to get right back on the winning horse this afternoon.

GAMEDAY: v. Syracuse 11/6

vs.

Home Game 5

AHL Game: 179

Who: Syracuse Crunch

Where: Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza

When: 7:05 p.m. EST

Last Game: For WBS: Last night in Rochester, the Pens came back from an 0-3 deficit nine minutes into the game and scored five unanswered goals to hold on to a 5-4 win. Five different Penguins skaters notched goals. Dustin Jeffrey had a goal and an assist and was a +2. For Syracuse: In Springfield last night, the Crunch lost in a shootout 3-2. Crunch goaltender Timo Pielmeier stopped 26 of 28 shots and took the loss in the shootout.

Record: For WBS,  9-0-0-0 (18 pts., 1st place East Division) – For SYR, 4-3-1-2 (11 pts., 5th place East Division)

Why you should care: This Crunch team is now affiliated with the Anaheim Ducks. Anaheim always ices a quality AHL team and so far this Crunch team is no different. Syracuse this week bolstered its blue line with Nathan Paetsch who the Crunch received on loan from the Vancouver Canucks organization. We only see the Crunch six times this year (3 home / 3 away) which is the least amount for teams in the East Division this year, so head-to-head games against this team must count.
