Why You Should Care: Penguins play a home and home set this weekend against a hot Hershey Bears team that has 5 out of 6 points in their last three games. Wilkes-Barre will need to find a way to solve expected starting goaltender and reigning AHL Player of the Week Vitek Vanecek if they wish to have any success this weekend. Big test lies ahead.

Linesmen: Tom DellaFranco / Luke Murray

Why You Should Care: If last night was any indication on how this series is going to go between these two sides, then buckle up. The Phantoms will be looking to exact some revenge on the Penguins while Wilkes-Barre will be looking to button up in the discipline department on Lehigh Valley so as to not allow for so many power plays. Expect more of the same and another thriller between these two rivals.

Other Game to Watch: Can Hershey, who lost in a shootout last night in Charlotte, hand the Checkers their first loss of the season?

Why You Should Care: First of twelve regular season meetings tonight and first of a weekend doubleheader home and home against the Phantoms. Lehigh Valley has more questions than answers right now and after a week of practice look to ferret out those issues against one of their biggest rivals. The Penguins are coming off of a loss in a game they fought hard to win Wednesday at home against the Bears. Both teams should bring their best tonight in Allentown.

Other Game to Watch: Springfield brings their high flying offense into Laval, QC for a nice early test for both teams.

Why You Should Care: Penguins welcome in Hershey for a midweek game at home in Wilkes-Barre. Bears come in 0-5 still looking for their first win. They are the last team in the AHL to win a game, and will be looking to get in the win column against a Penguins team that had a pretty good weekend in Cleveland.

Why You Should Care: Rematch tonight in The Land. Pens handled Cleveland pretty handily Thursday and scored an unprecedented three power play goals. Will the trend continue? Will Cleveland tighten up defensively and with discipline? Who starts in goal for the Penguins?

Listen: Nick Hart on the call on WILK.

Watch: AHLTV is new and improved and a lot cheaper.

Other Game to Watch: Two other teams rematch tonight in Springfield as the Thunderbirds host the Phantoms in their home opener. Last night, the Thunderbirds dismantled the Phantoms 7-0 and scored five power play goals in the process.

Last Game: This past Saturday in their home opener, the Penguins defeated the Springfield Thunderbirds 3-2 vis shootout. Zach Aston-Reese scored in regulation and in the shootout round. For Cleveland, the Monsters were in Toronto on Monday as the Marlies raised their 2018 Calder Cup Championship banner and spoiled the homecoming for the defending champs, handing the Marlies a 5-3 loss. Zac Dalpe had a pair of goals.

Referee(s): Brandon Biggers / Michael Markovic

Linesmen: Ray King / Brendan Lewis

Why You Should Care: Big tests for both sides tonight in The Land. The Penguins are coming off a tough battle that they walked away from victorious Saturday against a good Springfield team and the Monsters sit atop the North Division after jumping out to a 3-0 start. Wilkes-Barre can’t underestimate Cleveland and the Monsters want to see how they stack up against one of the AHL’s better franchises. Should be a good one tonight.

Other Game to Watch: They will all be watching us as it’s the only game on the schedule.

GAMEDAY: vs. Springfield 10/6

vs.

Who: Springfield Thunderbirds

Where: Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza

When: 7:05 p.m.

Last Game: This is the first regular season game for both teams.

Referee(s): Conor O’Donnell / Mike Sheehan

Linesmen: Ryan Knapp / J.P. Waleski

Why You Should Care: First game of the season always brings optimism. Standing in the way is a vastly improved in offseason Springfield Thunderbirds team that could contend this season. Take nothing from the 3-0 preseason that the Penguins played last weekend. The real season starts tonight against a very dangerous Springfield Thunderbirds team.
