Last Game: Last night against Lehigh Valley, the Pens beat the Phantoms 3-0. It was the first regulation shutout for Casey DeSmith, who stopped all 26 shots faced. Troy Josephs scored his first professional goal as well…. For Utica, the Comets hosted Rochester and won 5-3. Jake Virtanen scored twice and was named first star of the game.

Why you should care: Win and you are in. If the Penguins win this game this afternoon in any form or fashion, they are the first Eastern Conference team registered for the 2017 Calder Cup Playoffs. Utica poses a threat because they are in fifth place and still have a lot to play for.

Why you should care: Penguins look to sew up a spot to the Calder Cup Playoffs and it starts tonight in Springfield. The Penguins received reinforcements in the form of the aforementioned Warsofsky, Oskar Sundqvist and Josh Archibald from Pittsburgh ad Garrett Wilson will be available coming of of his injury. Adam Wilcox for Springfield was recalled to NHL Florida Thursday.

Last Game: Last night in Allentown, the Penguins shutout the Lehigh Valley Phantoms 4-0. Tristan Jarry had 35 saves for the shutout and the Penguins penalty kill went 9-for-9. For Utica, the Comets were in Syracuse last night and lost 5-1. Mike Zalewski scored for Utica.

Lat Meeting: February 21 in Utica, the Pens lost 2-1. Tom Kostopoulos had the goal for the Pens in the loss.

Record: For WBS: 45-18-3-0 (93 pts., 1st place Atlantic Division) — For UTI: 31-26-7-2 (71 pts., 5th place North Division)

Why you should care: Comets are going to come in today and look to take down the Eastern Conference’s best team after suffering a setback to their biggest rivals in Syracuse last night. Utica is presently outside of a playoff spot at the moment and need all the wins they can get. Wilkes-Barre will look to complete a perfect weekend.

Last Game: Last night in Syracuse, the Penguins won 5-1. Zach Aston-Reese had a goal and an assist, giving the rookie three points in his first two professional games. For Lehigh Valley, the Phantoms were last in action this past Wednesday in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Anthony Stolarz stopped 42 of 44 shots and was named second star of the game.

Last Meeting: Last Saturday in Wilkes-Barre, the Phantoms beat the Penguins 3-2. Chris McCarthy had two assist for first star honors, Tom Kostopoulos and Oskar Sundqvist scored for the Penguins in the loss.

Record: For WBS: 44-18-3-0 (91 pts., 1st place Atlantic Division) — For LV: 42-19-4-0 (88 pts., 2nd place Atlantic Division)

Why you should care: What path do the Penguins want to take here? The Phantoms have the toughest strength of schedule in the Atlantic Division out of all playoff contending teams. A big majority of that equation is four more meetings with the Penguins on the schedule. A win tonight puts the Penguins up five points on the Phantoms. A loss puts Lehigh Valley one point behind. The road team has won the last four meetings between these two teams.

Record: For WBS: 43-18-3-0 (89 pts., 1st place Atlantic Division) — For SYR: 32-21-6-5 (75 pts., 1st place North Division)

Why you should care: Penguins start an important three in three weekend against the Syracuse Crunch. It’s an important weekend for both teams who look to be playoff bound but aren’t just yet. Both of these division leaders will be looking to shrink that magic number tonight.

Why you should care: Points are at a premium as we are in the final stretch of the season. The Penguins cannot take the Wolf Pack lightly as they gave the Hershey Bears a fight in the two games down in Chocolatetown this past weekend. Two points are for the taking for the Penguins is they stick to the game plan and execute.
