Last Game: Sunday in Hershey, the Pens won 2-1 in overtime. Dominik Simon scored the game winning goal in overtime via penalty shot which gave the Penguins the win. For Albany, the Devils won Sunday in Providence by a score of 4-3. Blake Coleman scored the game winning overtime goal for the Devils.

Record: For WBS: 3-1-0-0 (6 pts., 2nd place Atlantic Division) — For ALB: 5-0-0-0 (10 pts., 1st place North Division)

Why you should care: The Devils come in as the best team in the AHL by a mile. The Penguins last weekend only allowed three goals in three games in the three in three. I think the better defense here between these two wins the day, so it will be a great game to see.

Last Game: Last night at home vs. Syracuse, the Pens won 3-1. Kevin Porter scored two shorthanded goals and assisted on another. For Hershey, the Eastern Conference Champions had their home opener against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and won 5-2. Chris Bourque didn’t score, but he had two assists. Joe Cannata had stopped 24 of 26 shots and picked up his first win of the season in a Bears jersey.

Record: For WBS: 2-1-0-0 (4 pts., 2nd place Atlantic Division) — For HER: 1-2-0-0 (2 pts., 6th place Atlantic Division)

Why you should care: Always fun when the Bears and Penguins meet up. This is the first of 12 meeting against the Bears. Hershey will be the more rested team having not played Friday or traveled at all this weekend. Pens will need to jump out to a good start if they want to be around in the third period.

Last Game: Last night at home against Springfield, the Pens lost 1-0. Reto Berra made 23 saves and the Thunderbirds blocked a boatload of shots. For Syracuse, they hosted Utica and lost 5-4. The Comets cashed on the two power plays awarded. Gabriel Dumont was named first star of the game with two goals and an assist.

Record: For WBS: 1-1-0-0 (2 pts., 3rd place Atlantic Division) — For SYR: 2-1-0-0 (4 pts., 3rd place North Division)

Why you should care: Crunch were in a track meet last night with the Comets and lost. Penguins were in a defensive battle last night with the Thunderbirds last night and lost. Does fast and loose prevail or is the team that is better on defense win tonight?

Last Game: Saturday in the home opener, the Penguins beat the Hartford Wolf Pack 6-2. Josh Archibald scored the first goal of the season for the Penguins, Jake Guentzel had four points. For Springfield, they were in Bridgeport last Sunday and won 2-1. Reto Berra stopped 17 of 18 shots and was named first star of the game. The Thunderbirds missed on two penalty shots, :37 apart.

Record: For WBS: 1-0-0-0 (2 pts., 1st place Atlantic Division) — For SPR: 1-1-0-0 (2 pts., 3rd place Atlantic Division)

Why you should care: The Penguins rolled the Hartford Wolf Pack last Saturday. They will be looking to do the same against a Springfield Thunderbirds team that is still looking to find it sea legs. You can’t underestimate Springfield, but the Penguins should be ready for the challenge.

Last Game: This is the first game of the season for the Penguins. For Hartford, the Wolf Pack opened their season at home last night against St. John’s and won 6-3. 12 different Wolf Pack players recorded at least a point in the game.

Record: For WBS: First game of the season — For HFD: 1-0-0-0 (2 pts., 1st place Atlantic Division)

Why you should care: Penguins open their eighteenth season at home against the Hartford Wolf Pack. The Penguins boast a revamped defensive corps and have some firepower up front. Should be a good early test for both teams tonight in Wilkes-Barre.

Atlantic Division Final — Game 7

AHL Game: I7

Who: Hershey Bears

Where: Giant Center

When: 5:00 p.m.

Series: Tied 3-3 (Best of Seven)

Last Game: Friday in Game 6 the Penguins won 6-2. The line of Tom Kostopoulos, Jake Guentzel and Carter Rowney combined for 11 points and a +12 rating.

What to watch for: Sticking with the theme of the series and regular season, first goal. The team that has scored the first goal in every contest between these two teams has gone on to win the game. Who scores first tonight may be crucial in determining who advances.

Atlantic Division Final — Game 6

Last Game: Wednesday in Hershey in Game 5, the Pens lost 5-3. After battling back from a three goal deficit to tie it, Zach Sill scored a shorthanded goal that broke the tie and gave the Bears the win. Casey DeSmith came in to relieve Tristan Jarry after Jarry gave up the third Bears goal.

What to watch for: First goal. The team that has scored the first goal in this series has gone on to win every game. Not just this postseason, but the regular season as well. The Penguins will also need to watch on special teams. They have given up four shorthanded goals this postseason and two just in this series with the Bears. Any more mistakes like this and it’s going to be offseason quickly.
