Last Game: Last Saturday at home against Lehigh Valley, the Penguins lost in a shootout 5-4. Brian Dumoulin had two assists, good for second star honors. For Providence, they were in Allentown last night and beat the Phantoms 5-1. Colin Stuart and Ryan Spooner each had two goals in the win.

Last Meeting: January 18 in Providence, the Penguins lost 5-4. Alexander Khokhlachev scored a goal with 1:29 left in regulation to break a 4-4 deadlock. Carter Rowney had a goal and two assists and Scott Wilson had two goals and an assist in the losing effort.

Record: For WBS: 28-18-2-4 (62 pts., 2nd place East Division) — For PRO: 27-19-6-1 (61 pts., 2nd place Atlantic Division)

Why you should care: Saturday night game at home in front of a sold out crowd and a game on TV. Big home game for the Penguins who want to start the weekend off on the right foot after a full week off and week of practice. Providence comes in battling for a playoff spot and I shouldn’t have to remind you about the recent playoff history between these teams.

Last Game: Last night at home vs. the Portland Pirates, the Penguins won 3-0. Matt Murray had a 23 save shutout and Scott Wilson scored to power play goals. For the Phantoms, they lost 3-2 at home vs. Binghamton. Nick Cousins had a goal and an assist in the losing effort.

Last Meeting: January 31 in Wilkes-Barre, the Pens lost 6-2. After being up 2-0, the Phantoms rattled off six straight goals to win. Andrew Ebbett and Scott Wilson both had two assists each.

Record: For WBS: 28-18-2-3 (61 pts., 2nd place East Division) — For LV: 22-21-4-1 (49 pts., 3rd place East Division)

Why you should care: The implosion the Penguins had the last time these two teams met is still fresh in the minds. Wilkes-Barre is obviously looking to erase that memory with a strong effort tonight.

Last Game: Wednesday at home vs. Binghamton, the Pens won 4-1. Dominik Uher scored two first period goals and was named first star of the game. For Portland, the Pirates were shutout 1-0 by the St. John’s IceCaps in Newfoundland.

Last Meeting: November 19 in Wilkes-Barre, the Penguins won 2-0. Jeff Zatkoff had a 23 save shutout.

Record: For WBS: 27-18-2-3 (59 pts., 2nd place East Division) — For POR: 26-19-3-0 (55 pts., 3rd place Atlantic Division)

Why you should care: The Penguins want to keep it rolling tonight against the Pirates, who have proven that they can score goals (having beaten St. John’s last Friday 8-1) and looking to stay above the cut line in the Eastern Conference. Another thing to look for is who starts in goal tonight. Does Hynes go back to Zatkoff and start Murray Saturday against the Phantoms?

Last Game: Sunday in Bridgeport, the Pens won 3-1. Carter Rowney and Jayson Megna each had a goal and an assist and Matt Murray stopped 36 of 37 shots. For Binghamton, they were in Utica Sunday and lost 7-4. Ryan Dzingel had two goals.

Last Meeting: January 2 in Wilkes-Barre, the Penguins won 5-0. Matt Murray had a 30 save shutout and Nick Drazenovic had two goals and an assist.

Record: For WBS: 26-18-2-3 (57 pts., 2nd place East Division) — For BNG: 18-22-5-1 (42 pts., 5th place East Division)

Why you should care: This is a trap game for the Penguins. A mid-week home game against a team that has lost six of their last seven games. Wilkes-Barre needs to come out with the same ferocity it did in games this weekend against Hershey and Bridgeport if they want to come out on top tonight.

Last Game: Last night in Hershey, the Pens lost in overtime 4-3. Carter Rowney scored the first shorthanded goal of the season for the Pens in the loss. For Bridgeport, the Sound Tigers hosted the Hartford Wolf Pack and won 3-2 in overtime. Chris Langkow scored the game winner for Bridgeport.

Last Meeting: December 27 in Wilkes-Barre, the Pens lost 5-0.

Record: For WBS: 25-18-2-3 (55 pts., 2nd place East Division) — For BRI: 21-20-5-1 (48 pts., 5th place Northeast Division)

Why you should care: Penguins played great for forty minutes in Hershey then game up three straight and lost in overtime. They bus overnight to get to Bridgeport this afternoon to play a dangerous Sound Tigers team. The Penguins can’t take this game lightly.

Other Game to Watch: I am sick of paying attention to the Bears, so let’s go with Rochester in Milwaukee. The Amerks beat Grand Rapids in overtime last night and the Admirals beat Rockford for the Midwest Division lead. Should be a good one.

Last Game: Tuesday at home vs. Springfield, the Penguins won 5-0. Matt Murray collected his fifth shutout of the season, third against Springfield, with a 28 save shutout. For the Bears, they were in Binghamton last night and won 3-2. Ex-Penguin Chris Conner had two goals for the Bears.

Last Meeting: January 3 in Hershey, the Pens lost in a shootout 2-1. Matia Marcantuoni scored the only goal for the Penguins in the loss.

Record: For WBS: 25-18-1-3 (54 pts., 2nd place East Division) — For HER: 26-13-4-2 (58 pts., 1st place East Division)

Why you should care: The Bears have points in their last eight games. They are playing like an East Division leader and are, rightfully. The Penguins need to win head-to-head games against Hershey if they have any chance of looking to re-take first in the East, just with all the games in hand Hershey seems to have on Wilkes-Barre. Will be a great test for the Penguins tonight in Hershey against the Bears.

When: 7:05 p.m.

Last Game: Saturday at home vs. Lehigh Valley, the Penguins were up 2-0, only to see the Phantoms score six unanswered and lose 6-2. Bryan Rust and Andrew Ebbett both had two assists in the losing effort. For Springfield, the Falcons were in Hartford Saturday and lost 3-1. Marko Dano had the lone goal for Springfield in the loss.

Last Meeting: Friday in Springfield, the Falcons were shutout by the Penguins 5-0. Matt Murray had his fourth shutout of the season with 28 saves.

Record: For WBS: 24-18-1-3 (52 pts., 2nd place East Division) — For SPR: 26-15-4-0 (56 pts., 3rd place Northeast Division)

Why you should care: Penguins still souring over the blowout loss against the Phantoms on home ice in front of a sellout crowd Saturday and the Falcons are stumbling and still haven’t scored a goal against the Penguins this season in two prior meetings. Two teams not in desperation mode but the winner will feel better heading into the weekend than the loser, obviously.
