Getting back to business…

Few things to touch on today:

  • Tim Leone reported today that Dany Sabourin has been sidelined with a knee injury and is having surgery. As a result, he is out the next 2-3 months. He also made mention of the fact that Braden Holtby will not start tomorrow when the Bears play the Devils in Atlantic City. Instead, Todd Ford will likely get the nod Hershey in net and Jared DiMichiel has been recalled from the ECHL.
  • Mark Letestu is also scheduled for surgery to repair his knee. He will be out 4-6 weeks. In case you have been so snowed in by this weather you haven’t heard, Dustin Jeffrey and Eric Tangradi are up in Pittsburgh.
  • As a result of the Jeffrey / Tangradi promotion, Patrick Kileen, Ben Street and Nick Petersen have been recalled from The Nail. Bombulie updated today that Thiessen isn’t “quite” ready to play this weekend, but will be back no later than this Monday. This means that Killeen will see at least one game. My guess is probably Monday in Atlantic City vs. the Devils.
  • It’s been all over the place, but Tim Campbell up in Winnipeg reports that Sami Salo will probably dress for the Manitoba Moose this weekend on a conditioning stint. Here are his numbers courtesy of hockeydb.com.
  • The Razor may be a Duck. (towards the bottom)
  • Your weekly Patrick Williams fix.
  • Check out this find from Tim McManus:

Quite a find. Pens need to gather it, quickly, because you will get left behind in this division if you stumble one bit. Let’s face it, Wilkes-Barre has been the steadiest team in the East Division all year, while Hershey, Charlotte, Norfolk and Binghamton have all traded positions almost on a weekly basis. I am not saying that if we lose a few games here and there that the bottom will fall out and we’ll be golfing in April, however.

Let’s Go Pens!

What’s that I Schnell?

According to the AHL Transactions page, Ryan Schnell has been recalled from Wheeling to join the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins on their three-day road trip starting this Friday in Providence.

Here are Schnell’s numbers with The Nail this year: 22 games played, 2 goals 2 assists 4 points and 91 penalty minutes. (link)

Schnell is a fighter / enforcer. He will probably see fourth line minutes this weekend. With Boulerice serving out his 10-game suspension, consider this a try out for Schnell to prove he can bang at this level.

Go Penguins!

Jeffrey Back, Street Sent Back

Two quick personnel moves to talk about.

Bombulie said in his update that Keven Veilleux is good to go this weekend. The hope is Brian Strait joins him along with Andrew Hutchinson. Save a for a healthy weekend, Wilkes-Barre could be 100% healthy next Wednesday for Syracuse.

I will not be in attendance on the booster club trip this weekend.

Go Pens.

Street Up

I wasn’t going to blog today given the fact that I saw nothing official regarding Ben Street being recalled from Wheeling to Wilkes-Barre / Scranton. I had heard about it but saw nothing official.

Until I saw this. Street has indeed been recalled and will be with the team tomorrow and Wednesday in Charlotte.

Let’s speculate. The recall means WBS is down a forward and have no healthy bodies available with Veilleux and Vitale on the shelf. Let’s take it a step further. Street is a winger. Veilleux is a winger but sometimes plays center. Vitale is a center but sometimes plays winger. Veilleux sits and Vitale plays. Makes sense, no?

I guess I have to listen to the pregame show on the radio tomorrow to be sure since I am not flying to Charlotte for these games.

Why not Haddad? This may help answer that question.

Let’s Go Pens!

EDIT: Eric P at the Wilkes-Blog has a story regarding Veilleux’s status from the local news. I don’t even watch the local news. Anyway here is the link, and from it you can click through to the link from the local news. Early estimations are 2-3 weeks.
