Chirps from Center Ice

A fan blog about the AHL's Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins

Come sail away…

Just when you thought the East Division this year couldn’t get better, Tampa Bay / Norfolk announced today that Cedrick Desjardins has been traded from Montreal / Hamilton in exchange for Karri Ramo.

Desjardins’ accolades: Led AHL with 2.00 GAA, ranked second in shutouts (6), was fourth in wins (29), and tied for sixth in save percentage (.919). He won Reebok Top Goaltender Award at Ducks Unlimited AHL All-Star Skills Competition during 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic. 2009-10 AHL Second All-Star Team (Hamilton), 2008 Kelly Cup Finals MVP (Cincinnati), 2006 Memorial Cup Most Valuable Goaltender (Quebec)*

Bombulie has Norfolk finishing 6th in the division (as of August 6). I had Norfolk finishing 4th before today’s announcement. With Mike Angelidis, Now Desjardins, and the blueline help of Vladimir Mihalek, Mathieu Roy and Mike Vernace we may be looking at them as now high as 2nd in the division. Problem is, where is the goal scoring going to come from? Angelidis can’t do it all. You may be looking at a bunch of one-goal games in Hampton Roads. Watch out for Norfolk.

*= credit the Norfolk Admirals twitter feed for those stats.
