Announced this afternoon that Penguins goaltender Brad Thiessen was named the recipient of the Aldege “Baz” Bastien Award which is the Award given to the league’s outstanding goaltender.
Thiessen’s stats, quite frankly, have been outstanding:
44 games played and only 79 goals against. 1.93 goals against average and a 0.922 save percentage with a record of 34-7-1 with seven shutouts.
League presser on the announcement is here.
Thiessen is the best goaltender on the best team. An easy choice, I’d say.
The Penguins can very well clean up the AHL Awards this week. Coach of the Year will be announced Wednesday and League MVP will be announced Friday.
It’s not the AHL but in the ECHL, Ben Street was announced Rookie of the Year today for putting up 51 points in just 38 games for the Wheeling Nailers.
One AHL game of interest tonight I will be watching and commenting on over on the Twitter feed: Norfolk at Charlotte. Checkers win and they solidify themselves as a 3 seed. Admirals win and they give themselves breathing room at the 4 seed and go two points up on Binghamton for that spot. After tonight the Admirals will have just a game in hand on Binghamton and will face off against the Senators in a key matchup Wednesday night in Binghamton.
Go Pens.
