Why You Should Care: Phantoms looking to exact a bit of revenge tonight while the Penguins are looking to continue the weekend with another win against their in-state rivals. Tristan Jarry is scheduled to start in goal for the Pens, who should not be making any lineup changes.

Other Game to Watch: Utica visits Syracuse in a good, clean, old fashioned rivalry game between two Central New York teams.

Last Game: Last Saturday at home against the Charlotte Checkers in the home opener, the Penguins lost 5-2. Daniel Sprong and Thomas DiPauli scored goals for the Penguins but Wilkes-Barre allowed Charlotte to score twice shorthanded. For Lehigh Valley, the Phantoms were in Hartford on Sunday and lost in a shootout 2-1. Alex Lyon turned away 35 of 36 shots presented to him.

Record: For WBS: 0-1-0-0 // For LV: 1-0-0-1

Referee(s): Keith Kaval / Corey Syvret

Linesmen: Tom DellaFranco / Tom George

Why You Should Care: The Penguins had a week to stew on the egg that they laid at their home opener last Saturday. The Phantoms blew out Hershey in theirs then went to play a tougher Hartford team then they thought and lost in a shootout. So it’s two teams that either didn’t like the way they played or aren’t sure of their style of play. Should be an interesting game and miniseries between these two heated rivals this weekend.

Other Game to Watch: Binghamton visits Laval. Both teams are coming off great opening weekends.

Who: Charlotte Checkers

Where: Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza

When: 7:05 p.m.

Last Game: This is the first game of the season for the Penguins. For Charlotte, they kicked their season off in Hartford last night and erased a third period 4-2 deficit and won 5-4 against the Wolf Pack. Where have you seen that before? Patrick Brown had three assists. Warren Foegele had two goals.

Record: For WBS: this is their first game — For CHA: 1-0-0-0

Referee(s): Evgenii Romasko / Terry Koharski

Linesmen: Bob Goodman / Scott Pomento

Why You Should Care: It’s the first game of the season for the new and improved Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins. Deep at all positions and ready to roll, this is the Penguins best shot it would seem to seriously contend for the trophy which has eluded them the most, the Calder Cup. It all gets started in a few hours.

Other Game to Watch: Hershey and Lehigh Valley renew old rivalries tonight in Allentown.

Last Game: Friday in Wilkes-Barre, the Bruins forced a decisive Game 5 after jumping out to 3-0 lead in the first, a 4-0 lead early in the second and held on to win 4-2. Jake DeBrusk scored twice for Providence. The Penguins went 0-for-6 on the power play.

What to watch for: Penguins need a better effort this afternoon if they want to advance in all facets. Getting the lead first and striking on the power play will be or should be key in this one. For Providence, they will want to replicate the same effort in Game 4 today here in Game 5. It’s going to be a tough task for both sides. Look for a game more like Game 3, which was a defensive chess match.

Last Game: Last night in Wilkes-Barre, the Penguins scored two power play goals to Providence’s one and beat the Bruins 2-1 to go up in the series by that same margin. Penguins defenders Tim Erixon and David Warsofsky scored the goals for the Penguins in the win and Casey DeSmith made 32 saves to pick up the win.

What to watch for: Bruins leaving it all out there. Expect Providence to play fast and loose and give the Penguins all they have. Wilkes-Barre just needs to replicate what they did in Game 3 if they want to end the night with handshakes as opposed to coming back for a winner take all Game 5 Sunday afternoon.

When is Game 5?: Providence needs to win in order for this to occur and if they do it will be Sunday in Wilkes-Barre at 3:05.

Last Game: Sunday in Providence, the Penguins snatched victory from the jaws of defeat scoring with 63 seconds left in regulation when Josh Archibald scored to tie it then Derrick Pouliot scored in overtime to win it to send the series back to Wilkes-Barre tied 1-1

What to watch for: Discipline must be the name of the game for both teams. For the Penguins it has to be on special teams and with Providence it has to be on the blue line. Wilkes-Barre gave up too many penalties in Game 1 and it cost them and the Bruins couldn’t stop the Penguins offense in Game 2 and it cost them. After four days off, expect these two to go after each other early to get the upper hand.

What to watch for: Discipline for the Penguins who took too many penalties Friday. Also, the blue line will get a boost with the return of Cameron Gaunce and possibly Barry Goers.
